    • A native of China's Shanxi province, Robin Li went to Peking University from where he graduated in Information Management and earned a master's degree from the University of Buffalo in computer science
    • He started his career with the Dow Jones & Company as a software engineer and went on to develop RankDex search engine in 1996 for which he got a US patent. He pioneered search engine indexing that used hyperlinks
    • Li returned to China in 1999 and the following year he co-founded search engine Baidu, a Google clone with Eric Xu, based on the RankDex technology
