    Sergey Brin's Journey so far...

    • Sergey Mikhaylovich Brin and his parents emigrated to the United States from Soviet Union (now Russia) in 1979 when he was six years old following anti-Semitism against his family
    • In 1993, Brin graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maryland and completed his masters from Stanford University in 1995
    • It is in Stanford where he met Larry Page during his doctorate program and the duo worked on a web project that ranked or listed pages according to their popularity
    • Brin and Page named the search engine project Google after the mathematical term 'googol' which is a large number like 1 with 100 zeroes, to highlight the huge amount of information available on the Internet
    • With funding from family, friends and venture capitalists, Sergey Brin and Larry Page launched Google in 1998. Based out of Silicon Valley, California, the search engine became an instant hit globally
    • Google, the world's number one search engine launched its Initial Public Offer (IPO) in 2004 and raised over $1.9 billion thereby making Brin and Page billionaires, the duo soon turned it to a global conglomerate that controls most of how the world interacts on the Internet
    • In one of its biggest bets, and under the guidance of Brin, Google acquired online video platform YouTube from its founders Steve Chan and Chad Hurley for $1.65 billion
    • In October 2015, Brin and Page restructured Google to form a holding company called Alphabet; Brin became the president and under this holding company came a slimmer Google and many more subsidiaries. By 2016, Google had an unprecedented record of more than a trillion searches per day
    • In December 2019, Brin and Page stepped down from the day-to-day management of Alphabet and handed over the control to Sundar Pichai
    • Since 2010, Brin has spent a considerable amount of time in Project X, a new division that Google founders launched to tackle some of the world's pressing needs and make it a better place
    • In the last few years, Brin has been involved in building a hi-tech airship that would have multiple roles but primarily to be used in humanitarian missions

    • Modi is scheduled to visit Moscow in the second week of July for the annual bilateral summit, which will focus on defence, energy, trade and connectivity partnership. The Russian foreign minister also batted for Russia-India-China (RIC) partnership. "Yevgeny Primakov promoted the idea of multipolarity and created the Russia-India-China troika. It does not meet often, but we are planning to hold an RIC conference. RIC is the progenitor of Brics... It was actually Yevgeny Primakov's idea that the Russia, India and China triangle should become the symbol of the multipolar world, and its core," he said.

    • Days before the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland, Russian President Putin, on June 14, laid out conditions for Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. Putin said Russia would end the war only if Kyiv agreed to drop its NATO ambitions and hand over the entirety of four provinces. He restated his demand for Ukraine's demilitarisation, unchanged from the day he sent in his troops on Feb. 24, 2022. President Putin stressed that the Ukrainian regime must also guarantee the rights and freedoms of the Russian-speaking population. He said all these agreements should be fundamentally recognised at the international level, followed by the removal of Western sanctions against Russia. • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's recent visit to China raised eyebrows about the depth of the Beijing-Moscow alliance. Despite appearances, the partnership is more complex than a simple embrace. Russia lacks a formal military alliance with China, maintaining a strong military partnership with India instead. Recent deliveries of warships and Igla-S systems to India underscore this relationship, enhancing India's air defense capabilities. Russia should tread carefully with China, which aims to become the dominant partner, a prospect Moscow finds uncomfortable.
