Vanishing vanaspati still plays an outsized role in calculation of WPI
Although the usage of vanaspati has significantly reduced, it remains a significant factor in calculating the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). In India, vanaspati consumption has dropped from approximately 6% of total cooking oil consumption in 2010-11 to about 3% in 2022-23. While household consumption of vanaspati has declined and shows no signs of reversal, it remains prevalent in processed foods and the baking industry.

Mother Dairy to invest Rs 750 crore to set up two dairy, fruits and vegetables processing plants
"In our endeavour to expand our distribution and reach to our consumers, we have earmarked a capital expenditure (capex) outlay of over Rs 750 crore to enhance our dairy and F&V (fruits and vegetables) processing capacities across key locations," Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd MD Manish Bandlish told PTI. Mother Dairy is coming up with a big dairy plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra with an investment of around Rs 525 crore, he said.

FSSAI begins milk & milk products' survey across 766 districts, to submit report by Dec
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a nationwide surveillance study on milk and milk products to combat adulteration. The study will run until October and cover 766 districts, with over 10,000 samples collected. The FSSAI aims to submit its report to the health ministry by December. The survey will assess compliance with food safety regulations and identify hotspots for adulteration.

The union government on Thursday advised the edible oil manufacturers, packers, and importers to declare net quantity on packages in volume without temperature in addition to declaring the same in weight, as per an official statement. As per the provisions made under the rules the net quantity of edible oil, vanaspati ghee, etc. needs to be declared either in weight or volume and if declared in volume, then the equivalent weight of the commodity mandatorily to be declared.
