Full disclosure: I am currently a mid level 10X employee.

Someone directed me to the page about my company and mentioned we had a weird warning on top about how this article may have been written by someone who was paid without disclosing it. I whole heartedly agree with that policy, but in asking around on company Slack I've yet to find anyone who says they've paid for the article. The original author, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:ParinazF, appeared to have been flagged for some other pages she wrote, and the content in this article really strikes me as a fair and quick summary of quickly found facts rather than a promotional piece. Though the fact that she still attempted to make free contributions after being blocked did strike me as odd.

I read the article and, bias stated above, really thought this was fair and have no reason to believe it was paid for. As a company employee I think I should generally avoid editing the page, but did make this one edit as I felt it was incorrect. Evolvedmicrobe (talk) 04:47, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Given your obvious conflict of interest you are not the one who should be making that call. Of more interest is your statement that "she still attempted to make free contributions after being blocked did strike me as odd." 1. "she"? Really? you know that how. 2. Made contributions after being blocked? What account did she use, how do you know? "free contributions"? How do you know which ones were free and which were not?
Regarding COI, fair enough. Regarding your question on how I know they were a "she" and if the contributions were "free", to be clear, if I knew exactly who this person was and what she was paid to do I would have said so. In trying to resolve this issue and track down the original author, I remember finding places where she described herself with a feminine pronoun, and I tend to honor whatever pronoun someone prefers. The what was paid/unpaid was inferred, I remember thinking some of her later edits seemed to have no apparent remunerative value I could think of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evolvedmicrobe (talkcontribs) 08:12, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Evolvedmicrobe: Per the discussion below I had to remove the section on products entirely. If you would like to have a go at writing a few sentences which are compliant with policies i.e. WP:NPOV and WP:NOTPROMO, then I'd be happy to take a look. Keep it short and sweet and explain what it is that the products do, rather than what makes them particularly great. SmartSE (talk) 19:06, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of "undisclosed payments" banner

[edit]

Hello, Wikipedia. My name is Nick, and I've created an account here to suggest article improvements transparently as part of my work at Consort Partners. I've disclosed my conflict of interest on my profile page, and I plan to only post on Talk pages and avoid making changes to articles directly. I'd like to start by tackling the "undisclosed payments" banner at the top of this article, which was added by User:MER-C in July 2019. I should note, an employee of 10x Genomics removed the banner in October 2019, which was replaced by User:Duffbeerforme in May 2020. I'd like to clear up some confusion here and make a clear disclosure based on the above discussion. I can confirm that Consort Partners hired User:ParinazF as a consultant to draft the original article, which was submitted and accepted via Articles for Creation. This was before we were more familiar with disclosure requirements on Wikipedia. This also explains why User:Evolvedmicrobe was unaware of any 10x Genomics employees who worked on this page. I would like to offer editors this disclosure to display at the top of this talk page:

{{Connected contributor (paid)|User1=ParinazF|U1-employer=Consort Partners|U1-client=10x Genomics|User2=NT at Consort Partners|U2-employer=Consort Partners|U2-client=10x Genomics}}

I'm not sure if User:Evolvedmicrobe should be added to this template as well. Does this clarification help resolve the "undisclosed payments" banner? I notice the tag says, "It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies." Happy to see removal of any non-compliant text in order to make tag removal possible, and I can help address any concerns if any of the page content is at issue and needs to be reworded or otherwise edited.

I hope this helps, and thanks for your consideration. NT at Consort Partners (talk) 20:09, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This article continues to attract the attention of spammers. I blocked two today - BeatriceBianca and Boriskama. I'm not convinced you are telling the full story. MER-C 16:51, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MER-C: Totally understand your skepticism. We hired ParinazF, and she has advised us that she asked BeatriceBianca to make some contributions, but did not compensate her for this work. We've not asked anyone else to edit the page, including Boriskama. If this or others are spam accounts, they're not hired by or otherwise related to Consort. By all means, block who you feel you must, and if there's anything problematic in the article, I'm happy to help fix. Thanks, NT at Consort Partners (talk) 21:16, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MER-C: I've been keeping an eye on this discussion to see if you or other editors reply. Are you able to revisit, or could you possibly recommend where I can ask for additional help resolving this issue? Thanks NT at Consort Partners (talk) 16:49, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please post at WP:COIN. MER-C 17:09, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NT at Consort Partners: I've changed {{UPE}} to {{Paid contributions}} per the disclosures. This doesn't change the fact that the article needs a lot of work to tidy it up. SmartSE (talk) 08:21, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartse: Thanks for your help. Are you willing to remove or identify any problematic content I can help address? The current banner suggests removal is possible if the article is neutral. Thanks again! NT at Consort Partners (talk) 17:06, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NT at Consort Partners: I've taken a scythe to the article to remove anything poorly sourced and or promotional and reorganised it to be more chronological. Bear in mind WP:BOGOF so I wasn't going to spend a lot of time trying to improve it. @MER-C: what do you think? SmartSE (talk) 18:12, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's better. MER-C 18:36, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Removed it. SmartSE (talk) 18:52, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Financial updates

[edit]

Hi editors, my name is Patrick and I work for Consort Partners. I'm here to request edits on the behalf of my client, 10x Genomics. I was hoping to update some financial information based on 10x Genomics' most recent SEC 10-K form.

In the infobox, I was hoping to update the Revenue and Number of employees lines and a Net income line.

  • 10x had revenues of $490,490,000 as of December 2021 (p.97).[1]
  • The company operated at a loss of $52,230,000 in 2021 (p.97).
  • 10x had 417 employees as of December 2021 (p.4)

I won't make any edits myself due to my conflict of interest. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you in advance for your help. Patrick at Consort (talk) 16:12, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Patrick at Consort I may be reading this wrong but doesn't your source have a loss of 58 m, not 52m? (please ping on reply) Happy Editing--IAmChaos 13:08, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IAmChaos: Thank you so much for the assist! To answer your question, it seems I mixed my terms in the last request. I meant to request an "operating income" line from the template, which I think would translate to line 10 ($52.253M) of that table in the 10-K. We could also add or substitute a "net income" line with the $58.223M net loss if you think that would be more accurate/complete? I am open to your interpretation. Thanks again for the help! Patrick at Consort (talk) 15:38, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Had some trouble, I broke the table and then couldnt figure out where to type a dollar sign, but I think I finally got it right. Happy Editing--IAmChaos 20:48, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IAmChaos: Thanks so much for the help! Just one little thing, technically the operating income line should be negative, because it was a loss for 2021. I just want to make sure everything is totally accurate. Thanks so much for taking the time to update the article! Patrick at Consort (talk) 02:39, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

History section update

[edit]

Hi editors, Patrick here again with another request on behalf of 10x Genomics. I was hoping we could update the last sentence of the History section to include the revenue numbers from 2021? Please let me know! @IAmChaos:, would you be able to review this request as well? I'd really appreciate it! Patrick at Consort (talk) 16:10, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Patrick at Consort Thanks for the talk page ping, this wasnt on my watchlist. Im traveling tonight, and on my alt account. This seems like a basic extension of the last request so I'll post {{ECOI|g}} Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. IAmChaos(alt acct - please ping my main) 01:14, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @IAmChaos:, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I really appreciate the permission to go ahead, but just to make absolutely sure I don't cause any warning banners to be put on the article, I won't make any edits myself. Just an extra precaution I'm trying to take to make sure I don't make any mistakes! I'd really appreciate the help! Patrick at Consort (talk) 18:28, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Zippybonzo:, I noticed you made some changes to the Talk page. Would you be willing to add this revenue figure to the ''History'' section? I know @IAmChaos: said I could go ahead and do it myself but I really want to make sure I don't accidentally mess anything up. Please let me know! Patrick at Consort (talk) 14:32, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Patrick at Consort, I don't recall editing this page, I will get round to editing it when I get a moment, I'm currently doing something off-wiki that I need to finish, but I will be done in a few days. | Zippybonzo | Talk | 14:54, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Zippybonzo:, I thought I saw your name come up on the Talk page. In either case, I really appreciate you being willing to take a look! Patrick at Consort (talk) 17:29, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick at Consort, if you can write me the wiki text, I will copy and paste it in, I’m not the best at wikitext, so if you can write it, I will be able to add it. Thanks, | Zippybonzo | Talk | 17:56, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Zippybonzo: I'm happy to give it a try! How about something like this:
  • The company had revenues of $3.32 million in 2015, $27.48 million in 2016, $71.18 million in 2017,[1],$145 million in 2018,[2] and $490.49 million in 2021.[3]

@Zippybonzo: thanks, I really appreciate it! Patrick at Consort (talk) 15:35, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Zippybonzo:, just wanted to double check about this update! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. Patrick at Consort (talk) 20:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lawsuit update

[edit]

Hi editors, Patrick here again with another request on behalf of my client, 10x Genomics. I was hoping to update the Arbitration and lawsuit section with the latest developments on the suits. I suggest adding something similar to the following sentence to the end of that section:

  • In 2021, Bio-Rad and 10x Genomics settled all remaining outstanding lawsuits brought in American federal as well as international courts for an undisclosed amount and the rights for the companies to license each other's patents for single-cell analysis.[1]

Please let me know what you think! I am open to further discussion on this. As always, I won't make any edits myself due to my conflict of interest. @Zippybonzo: or @IAmChaos: would either of you have any interest in reviewing this update? Thanks in advance for your consideration! Patrick at Consort (talk) 20:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
