Notability of BrolyLegs

[edit]

BrolyLegs meets WP:NBIO and WP:GNG, as he has been covered in publications such as ESPN, Vice, Game Informer, MySA, CNET (before 2020), Destructoid and Siliconera. The only questionable source is perhaps the Twitter link which serves as a WP:ABOUTSELF source for his birthday. Both the Vice and MySA sources link to his Twitter account, proving that the account in question verifiably is BrolyLegs; per common sense I believe it's okay to use. Speaking of which, by the time I post this, it will have been a few days past his 35th birthday, so if BrolyLegs sees this, happy belated b-day! But I digress - this isn't some vanity page for him but a fully encyclopedic article. Anyway, this clearly meets the notability guidelines so I posted to mainspace directly. Thousands of players get written about. Why would this person deserve his own Wikipedia page? Has he won anything significant? Aquatic Ambiance (talk) 13:10, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aquatic Ambiance Because he's received significant coverage in multiple reliable, secondary and independent sources that provide enough in-depth info of his life to justify a biography, in line with WP:BASIC/WP:NBIO and WP:GNG. How is this even an actual question? There isn't a single guideline that requires a professional gamer to win an award or gaming tournament in order to obtain an article; at best, winning a tournament just makes them more likely to obtain an article. But at the end of the day, it's the sourcing that matters the most, which is what makes him deserve a Wikipedia page.
And again, what does it matter if thousands of players get written about? They have Wikipedia articles because they meet the notability guidelines, just like BrolyLegs objectively does. I say this with as much good faith as possible, but this comment smells an awful lot like WP:OSE. PantheonRadiance (talk) 19:20, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Forward

[edit]

Hey everyone. I wish to share my condolences to Michael "BrolyLegs" Begum and his entire family. He was a legend in the fighting game community, and I created the article last year as a way to honor his achievements and dedication. One of the goals I had this year was to nominate this article for GA Status so I could have him appear on "Did You Know?", but since his recent passing and the ITN nomination, this goal will have to wait. For any editor here, I ask you to please maintain the quality of the article, not just for Wikipedia's sake, but for Begum and his family as well. This would make it so not only it has a chance at passing GA, but most importantly to continue honoring his legacy - both as a fighting game player, and as a human being.

Also, if the family of Begum reads this, thank you for everything you have done to encourage him to follow his dreams. If any concerns about the article arise, please do not hesitate to address them. Once again, thank you. PantheonRadiance (talk) 20:30, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
