Red list

[edit]

I have moved this list to the talkpage. The intention of the creation of this article was to bring together in one place a discussion of the canal system in Amsterdam and to give details on the more significant canals which could then be broken out in summary style on the major canals. Simply listing the former canals is not by itself significantly helpful to the reader as the list is not put in a meaningful context. However, it can be useful to have such a list somewhere from which people can draw information and make a decision if the canal needs to be mentioned in the article - so I have moved the list here. Red linking these minor canals is unproductive and inappropriate as full articles will not be written on them - note that Prinsengracht hasn't yet grown into a break away article, and that is one of the more significant canals. If there is something to say then that can be said here in this article, and people can keep adding until the canal achieves a section of its own, and people can keep adding until the section can be broken out in summary style to a stand-alone article. If there is some disagreement with this move then I would welcome a discussion to seek a consensus. SilkTork *YES! 17:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wordy intro

[edit]
Can someone fix the intro to this? It currently reads as 'The more than hundred kilometer of canals' and should be 'They are more than a hundred kilometers of canals'. Thanks --MarinaKos (talk) 19:18, 24 June 2008 (UTC)MarinaKos.[reply]
 Done I re-worded the whole thing, so it's a bit easier to read.Ruodyssey (talk) 05:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plans

[edit]

"Since the construction of the canals, there have been plans to connect the north of Amsterdam (Amsterdam-Noord) to the city center. In 1999, a plan was made to complete the existing canal circle in the North. Plans to gentrify this area are still under development, but the plan to complete the canals in the north has not yet been incorporated."

This makes it seem as if the city council was seriously considering this plan or was even behind it. In reality, it is the brainchild of a single canal enthusiast who has been trying to get backing for his idea on forums and with financing companies, rather unsuccessfully, for years.

I'm quite certain this shouldn't be on this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.74.78.173 (talk) 17:38, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
