Didn’t Shôgakukan have an encyclopedia before 1984? The NDL OPAC shows a "日本百科大事典" from 1962, and a "世界原色百科事典" from 1965. Was this the start of their encyclopedia efforts? The history is important, esp in terms of the rivalry with Heibonsha, which you mention only at the end, but which should probably be at the start. I don’t think that the current prices of the encyclopedia should be mentioned: this sort of thing always changes, and anyone can easily check it online. Lots of the links to other Wikipedia article seem gratuitous, like “CD-ROM” or “verb.” Jb05-Hds201:53, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
