Old Fort Madison

1832 still a fort??

I have one source onsite that claims Fort Madison was still a military post in 1832. (Iowa As It Is in 1856 • Chapter 1 — BITLY/PARIOW1). It seems unlikely, but the book was written in 1855 by a man intimately familiar with Iowa. 24.136.6.157 (talk) 10:41, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
