'Other Canadian public transport operators'

[edit]

What context does this section provide? It seems quite the scattered selection - from the country's largest (Toronto) to a now-defunct service (Iqaluit). It may be better to put together a template of these, for better flexibility and presentation... Radagast 13:43, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

I'm not exactly sure what the purpose is - lists such as this seem to show up under 'See also' on each transit operator's page; I renamed it to 'Other Canadian public transport operators' to make it clear that those pages don't actually say anything about Grand River Transit. Personally, I don't see much point in having the list at all: the category system already provides such links if they're needed, and it's not as if the other systems are particularly related or connected to GRT. Streetcars

[edit]
the former Kitchener Transit (which also served Waterloo, previously with both streetcars and trolleybuses)

Did Kitchener Transit ever actually run streetcars? My impression was that they were all under the authority of the Grand River Railway and the earlier companies it absorbed, and that there were no further such services after it ceased passenger services. David Arthur 21:26, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When did KT begin operations? I know the streetcars stopped running in about the '40s; I don't think KT goes back that far, but I may be mistaken. If it doesn't, then they were likely a GRR operation. Radagast 02:39, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fares

[edit]

How about a fare table??

  • I'm pressed for time right now, so I can't do it at present
  • There are a number of models available from other Ontario Systems

  • Universal Bus Pass

What about a section describing the new Universal Bus Pass implemented at Wilfrid Laurier University? 216.16.232.30 18:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC)steph[reply]

Faulty Buses

A story in the Record seemed to be edited, but what's this about GRT buses failing inspections? Bacl-presby 16:36, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link to the article at feds.ca/upass is no longer correct. 216.59.247.120 (talk) 01:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

R&T Park station

[edit]

R&T Park (University of Waterloo Research & Technology Park, Hagey Road and Wes Graham Way) The University of Waterloo’s Research and Technology Park station is used mainly by students; the iXpress and GRT's Late Night Loop are the only routes to run on Hagey Boulevard

I use this station, and I can't say that I believe it to be mainly used by students. As I see it, the only students that would be using this stop would be those going to Optometry or to Columbia Icefields. On the other hand, there are several businesses in the R&T Park, such as Sybase, Open Text, those in the Accelerator Centre, and TechTown. If this station is used mainly by students, then I guess I don't see them on my trips. --  timc  talk   17:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just created this (by virtue of it being active in GO's pages now, with services starting Halloween). Please feel free to add improvements as you see fit. Radagast (talk) 02:06, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is the ixpress bus "rapid" transit? No.

[edit]

If you took this bus today at 12:15pm from Ainslie in Cambridge, you would arrive at Fairview Mall at 12:52pm and at Conestoga Mall at 1:45pm.http://web.grt.ca/HastinfoWeb/RouteSchedules?Date=2017-7-6&RouteDirection=Upward&RoutePublicIdentifier=200&ShowOptions=false&SelectedStopsIdentifiers=

How can we refer to this as rapid transit?? Peter K Burian (talk) 16:15, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's how the Region/GRT refer to it. I realize it's not the fastest route out there, especially with all the detours of the last few years, but we can't let original research change how sources define it. Radagast (talk) 17:39, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did some more reading and it's only rapid up to Fairview Park. (With the bus only lane at intersections.) That makes sense since the LRT will run from that station.
I revised the text. Peter K Burian (talk) 17:42, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Will GRT operate the Ion Rapid Transit trains?

[edit]

No such indication here: http://www.grt.ca/en/ion-light-rail.aspx

Also, not according to this: http://www.rideion.ca/what-is-ion.html... Ion will connect with GRT services:

ION is part of a Region-wide transit system that will connect rapid transit with a network of Grand River Transit (GRT) iXpress and local bus routes. ION and GRT will operate with one fare for all services and free transfers between both systems. ION will link to GO Transit, VIA Rail services ....

Peter K Burian (talk) 17:08, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This also suggest that Ion is separate from GRT, though both operated by the Region: http://rapidtransit.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/projectinformation/frequentlyaskedquestions.asp

ION will offer residents a new transportation choice: light rail transit (LRT) in two stages Along with Grand River Transit (GRT), ION will create an efficient, integrated, easy-to-use public transit system for all residents in Waterloo Region

Peter K Burian (talk) 17:10, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It will be operated by GrandLinq (specifically, Keolis) employees on contract to the Region of Waterloo, who will integrate the service with the GRT network. GRT logos will appear on Ion stations, Ion trains, and the POP transfers issued by both services. The same fare will be accepted on both. Radagast (talk) 21:53, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Route descriptions

[edit]

So it's clear from the page-top notices that the route description tables are considered too verbose and detailed for this type of article. With numerous changes coming in just a couple weeks' time (due to Ion launch), this seems the ideal moment to re-work that section of the article to present the content in a more concise and compact manner.

I'm going to work on some concepts that I will show here; feel free to add your own or provide feedback. Radagast (talk) 15:11, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Here's a first go. 'Stations' refers to either Ion stations or terminals named such by GRT (Boardwalk, Conestoga College, Hespeler, etc). Most routes can work with just those; other termini go in the notes.

Routes

The following is a general summary of route services; for details, consult the website. Routes numbered below 100 are local services, in the 200s are express service with the iXpress brand, in the 300s are full rapid transit with the Ion brand.
