EDIT needed? Saying the core focus is on engineering/technology would dilute the aim and vision of IITGN to become a comprehensive public university without hard boundaries of departments and have lot of weightage for many different academic interests (and not only for engg/tech). See for example other IITs (like HYD, INDORE, etc). So, perhaps we should just say a public university and cut the over emphasis on engg at the start of the page.

Proposed merge with Amalthea (technical summit)

[edit]

This article has already been blown up once per WP:TNT, and the subject has been covered for years by a (very out of date) section of the target. The conference actually has notability, but the repeated efforts to create an independent article have been plagued by the inexperience of the editor, who is trying to create a 'long' article out of the worst of the available sources. This needs to be developed as a subtopic of the university article, and then (possibly) eventually forked once it is reasonably developed through use of reliable sources rather than the ones that are currently in the article. In present case, there's not really any national/wide coverage on the subject and all sources are either primary, unreliable or local newspapers. It is just a technical summit of an institute that happens once a year and would serve a better informative page within the parent article which itself is not a very lengthy and in fact is outdated and heavily based on primary and unreliable sources, -and therefore have enough space to include in more contents to improve itself. We should better improve the IIT Gandhinagar article by merging reliably sourced contents from 'Amalthea' article (There'd be however no more than 5-6 lines, 7 at best).
We can't have a separate article on each and every local chapter/s of a notable topic. It is also very unlikely that subject has much scope of expansion beyond the present shape. It has a very short history and happens once a year, and is covered by few local newspapers. That'd be okay to cover within the parent article. Well, it can be forked out to create a separate article, -only when the parent article becomes too lengthy and tedious to read/navigate through.
A separate article at present will only serve the purpose of promotion and very likely constitute original research, and will certainly not result in an encyclopedia article. As, it is a stub now --and in the history section, it reads, Amalthea in its foundation year 2010, started off with a conclave of wide range of speakers[..]. It is exactly the same concern it was deleted for, few days ago at AfD. I look forward to hearing more comments. P.S. -Comments including WP:OSE will not help. Checked. The first three seem to work, the last three don't. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:02, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
