Shurnhold Secondary Modern School

[edit]

I think it is very wrong to claim that "The George Ward Technology College, which has been serving the community for over 50 years". Before it was called a Technology College it was simply "The George Ward School" and before that, there was a much smaller school on the same site, not a comprehensive - but a secondary modern school. To claim 50 years is stretching it a bit.

Crime section

[edit]

I've deleted this paragraph since the tone was very biased and lacked any citations. Some other pieces need attention, including

"This would not have been possible if it were not for the crushing of a cell of NIMBYs on the town council"
"Several notable students have passed through the illustrious corridors"

...Indeed; would the author care to elaborate? The whole piece needs some work really. Saying that the recent house-building boom has led to an increase in house prices shows a shaky grasp of economics. Anonymous, 21:51, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup tag

[edit]

This is an interesting article. Unfortunately

  • the prose no longer flows well
  • there are some unverifiable statements that could be sharpened up (or if the facts are not known, removed) such as crushing of a cell of NIMBYS, social solidarity, well known for ... hairdressers, no shortage of interest in these new properties and sporting events, at which the citizens of Melksham excel
  • the lead section is too short; it should summarise the article

I don't have time to tackle this, so I tagged it {{cleanup}}, and it awaits a volunteer, maybe you, to be bold! --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 16:42, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted the "crushing of a cell of NIMBY's" comment from the main article. DuncanHill 17:16, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gay Melksham

[edit]

This section is surely a pisstake. The bit about wife swapping seems to be a bit OTT and as for the local school having many gay pupils, what school doesn't? This sounds like homophobic vandalism by a native of Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon etc. Milvinder 00:18, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Melksham Today

[edit]

I've tried to make this article more 'encyclopedic' by adding some history & cleaning up the 'Melksham today' section, which read more like a cross between a tabloid news item & a school prospectus. This section needs to be edited a bit more yet I think. Brograve 21:39, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The map

[edit]

The maps wrong, and I don't know how to fix it. If you click on the bowerhill link there is a correct location on the map on that page. bert (talk) 19:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The photograph of Melksham Railway Station

[edit]

Hi, I haven't been to Melksham for many years so don't know this, but is the railway station really that awful? The photo makes it look as if it's virtually derelict. If this section needs a photo, and if the station has since been refurbished, is it possible to find a pic that makes it look like less of a dump? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.174.8.253 (talk) 13:36, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
