Date of birth concern

[edit]

I am concerned that we have been too eager to list a date of birth for Nawazuddin Siddiqui without being able to provide a suitable and reliable source, as Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy demands. There is no deadline, and we need not rush to provide our readers with poorly sourced material. If the data we are presenting has not yet been documented by a reliable third party, we are not obligated to then defer to an unreliable source. We have the option to wait until reliable sources are available, as I believe we should.

Today I removed a reference from this article which was attributed to a wiki.[1] User-generated sources like these are almost always unacceptable. A secondary source (CINEMAGIGS) is still listed in the article -- http://www.cinemagigs.com/2014/07/nawazuddin-siddiqui-biography.html -- CINEMAGIGS shows indications that it may have utilized Wikipedia itself as a source for its content. When visiting the CINEMAGIGS website, both the "About" and "Contact" buttons fail to function, and the "More" button lists out generic buttons "Menu 1" through "Menu 4" which lead to nowhere. When clicking on the author of the article at CINEMAGIGS, it leads to Raj Aryan aka PintuKumar160, with a link to his Google Plus page. There are no suggestions that this person is a credentialed journalist or anything more than a fan of film culture.

In any case I believe that CINEMAGIGS also fails as a reliable source, but as I have removed this poor source from the article at least once prior,[2] I would like to bring this here for community discussion and cc: the Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard. What are the determining factors being used to justify the use of this website as a WP:BLP source, and should it (CINEMAGIGS) be removed? Regards, Yamaguchi先生 19:25, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The source definitely does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for the inclusion of personal info in a BLP and I've removed the contentious date as a result. It's a user-generated blog; it doesn't even come close to the "We must get the article right. Be very firm about the use of high-quality sources" tenets of our BLP policy.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:48, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
