Famous Overdose Death

[edit]

The death of renowned singer Michael Jackson made worldwide headlines. His death was due to his doctor injecting Propofol for Jackson's insomnia problem. The Wiki doesn't mention Propofol as sleep aid, however it is used for that off label. TaylorLeem (talk) 16:14, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Total Rewrite..

[edit]

This is an important compound, and an important subject, it needs a lot of rework.

Without Propofol - the aging population would have some awful surgical experiences - perhaps many have not been subjected to compounds such as nitrous oxide, halothane, isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane -- Propofol has really helped and this article deserves a lot more attention.

Much of the language looks cut and pasted and there is no real flow to the article. It also leaps around almost randomly - with commentary that offers no cohesive structure.

It should be written in an encyclopedic tone - to inform a standard WP reader - BeingObjective (talk) 03:01, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is better now - at least the opening

[edit]

Despite the weird edit wars - which I am NOT NOW a part of - this is a better read.

I do think there are many sections that are old cut/pastes with the editors not really understanding the content.

The article was confusing as to the chemical and the chemical emulsion formulated as the anesthetic- the infobox gives plenty of technical data on this chemical compound - but it is ONLY as an emulsified formulation that it becomes useful. If you look at a vial of the stuff - and I see it frequently - it says something like 'one or two percent P in soybean oil' etc.

To be crystal PROPOFOL is a chemical. The stuff used by an Anesthesiologist is emulsified PROPOFOL.
