8 Jhānas[edit]

No traditional Buddhist text mentions eight jhānas. There are only four jhānas. The arūpa states are only ever called "āyatana". To call them jhānas is simply a mistake. Sometimes the jhānas are said to correspond to the rūpaloka and the āyatanas to the arūpaloka. Jayarava (talk) 17:29, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
