New Town Eagles or Newtown Eagles

[edit]

Which 1 is it? Boltonfan22 07:12, 20 December 2006 (UTC) Hiya mate. I take it ur from Tassie? Good work on the Tassie football stuff. I am from Hobart originally and now live in London. I have a strong interest in football at home so I am also helping out with the history of Tassie football stuff. Please don't let my contributions put you off from continuing. Between us, I am sure we will get it done right. Anyway, re Newtown or New Town. I originally thought it was "Newtown" - the same as the place in Sydney, but the more websites about their history, and indeed their own website (http://www.newtowneagles.com/) seems to suggest that it is New Town - two words. So I have been using that format. Anyway let me know if there is anything else I can help with, otherwise lets get cracking on this stuff. Have a good one![reply]

Hey mate good to see the Tassie football finally getting done. We could have them to a decent standard in no time. Just found my soccer roster from last year and it is definately New Town. Thanks for starting the Northern articles. cheers Boltonfan22 09:48, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

State League vs. State Championship

[edit]

I am thinking that this article should become a state championship page including a section on the defunct state league, with a redirect from state league. I will try to help out a bit, I did quite a bit of work on the Soccer/Football in Tas article.--TInTIn 05:42, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I am in favour of this as well. The way I have set it out at the moment makes it a bit confusing as th whether the State League and Non-State league championships are the same or not. Maybe we should ask on wikiproject if there is a preferred way? I am for changing the main emphasis onto the state championship (well it has been running for much longer, and is still running) and have a sub-article about the defunct State League. I am also happy to help with this, but at the moment I am working on updating the club pages.

Article name

[edit]

Regarding this edit - surely people realise by now that when you move an Australian article with the world 'football' in it, it's going to be controversial and should be discussed first? "Tasmanian association football (soccer) championships" - what a mouthful. If there was another article at "Tasmanian football championships" then "Tasmanian football (soccer) championships" or "Tasmanian association football championships" would be suitable names, but it has been a couple of weeks since the move and the former name was still a redirect, so I moved it back. Any better ideas, please discuss here. -- Chuq (talk) 00:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Champions of T-League / Victory League / NPL Tasmania

[edit]

Someone has incorrectly listed the Victory Cup results in the list of champions for 2013 and 2014. The Victory Cup was always treated and advertised as an additional, secondary piece of silverware and not the 'Champions of Tasmania', which has always been related to the top of the league. The listing on this article relates to who is 'Champions of Tasmania', which as the article states has been achieved a couple of different ways, depending on the format of leagues at the time. However currently the top of the league is considered to be the Champion, no the end of season finals' series. Evidence of my point of view is the fact that the top of the league goes onto the national NPL finals and also the separate naming of the then Victory Cup and now known as League Cup. Therefore unless I see any evidence to the contrary I will be replacing the two Victory Cup results and placing the league placings for 2013-2016 as Tasmanian Champions. --TinTin (talk) 05:10, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
