Evidence for Venom having crashed?

I am puzzled by the line "The need to concentrate on the Spitfire led to the scrapping of the sole Venom prototype in 1939, after a crash in testing.[4][6]" - I've not been able to find any evidence of the Venom ever having crashed, including the sources quoted. Its true that the prototype came close to crashing twice, Once when the engine failed and Geoffrey Quill had to do a glide landing at Gosport and again when the engine faded out on take 0ff from Brooklands and Quill just missed the race-track banking, but the engine recovered and he was able to fly on to Eastleigh where the Venom ended its days, its engine was on loan from Bristol and that was returned to them. Armament?

All sources seem to stress that the Venom had it's 8 gun armament fitted early in its flight testing. Yet none of the available photos of the venom (some in remarkably good resolution) show any signs of blast tubes or openings for armament in the leading edge of the wings.
