Self-intersection

[edit]

Technically, the route map bit that currently reads:

53.875 km
Brusio
780 m ASL
Brusio spiral viaduct
116 m
56.162 km
Campascio
637 m ASL

should be either

53.875 km
Brusio
780 m ASL
x.325 km
Brusio spiral viaduct
y+43 m ASL
x.441 km
Brusio spiral viaduct
y+33 m ASL
56.162 km
Campascio
637 m ASL

(following the rail line, you first go over a bridge, then under the same bridge, and at both points you cross another railway line - while the geographical coordinates of the intersection points are identical, their elevations are not, and neither are the odometer values)

or, in more detail:

53.875 km
Brusio
780 m ASL
Brusio spiral viaduct
116 m
Brusio spiral viaduct
116 m
56.162 km
Campascio
637 m ASL

(Note that that way, only one elevation/distance set is preserved).

My understanding is there are two further points along this railway line where self-intersections happen, but those are in tunnels.

Another possibility is to modify ABZlg and ABZrf to make something like:

53.875 km
Brusio
780 m ASL
Brusio spiral viaduct
116 m
Brusio spiral viaduct
116 m
56.162 km
Campascio
637 m ASL

Response

[edit]

The route map looks the way it does because I copied it over from the de.wikipedia route map without altering it. I like the second of your three suggested options, and agree that it's more appropriate than the present depiction. Unless someone objects in the next week or so, I will therefore amend the route map in accordance with that suggestion. Bahnfrend (talk) 08:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've now done the amendment (it's slightly different from the suggestion I chose). Bahnfrend (talk) 15:06, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
