Senpai TV is a Chilean subscription television channel dedicated mainly to broadcast Japanese animation, in addition to having original programming.[1]

History

[edit]

After Disney decided to withdraw some channels from the air in Latinamerica, to integrate their content to the streaming platforms, Disney + and Star +, the chilean cable television company, VTR, announced the arrival of new channels, such as the SenpaiTV. This is an initiative of Nexoplay, a multimedia project led by Jaime Boetsch, former general manager of ETC.[2]

The channel began its broadcasts on April 1, 2022 at 07:00, with the anime Slayers Revolution in Japanese language and with spanish subtitles, an unprecedented premiere on Latin American television. The next day, the channel broadcast a marathon of the first series of Captain Tsubasa. Although much of the channel's programming was previously part of the ETC schedule (as in the case of Sonic X, Doraemon, Inazuma Eleven, Shaman King or Full Metal Alchemist), during its first months, Senpai TV also presented anime series. never before broadcast on Chilean television, such as Fire Force, Fruits Basket (2019), Lupin III: Part 4 and Highschool of the Dead, in addition to broadcasting the film Akira for the first time in high definition, broadcasting in japanese and dubbed versions, on May 27 and 29 respectively.[3]

Programming

[edit]

The channel has four original programs:[4]

  • Tanuki: Current news program and topics related to the geek and otaku world.
  • Mangaka: Program dedicated to teaching how to draw manga.
  • Gemupurei: Program about video games related to different anime series.
  • Michi Club: Program dedicated to the broadcast of classic anime series.[5]
