MozaWiki

[edit]

This is the starting page for the MozaWiki project. MozaWiki is an effort to create adequately documented pages for each Mozambican language on Wikipedia.

The initial stages of this project are:

  1. Finding volunteers!
  2. Cataloging existing pages and determining their status
  3. Developing a template
  4. Creating a small number of prototypes
  5. Moving our prototypes toward official publication
  6. Adding more Language pages
[edit]

This is the template that can be copied for other Mozambican languages:

Where to begin

[edit]
  1. If you are a volunteer working on this project you will need to start an account on Wikipedia if you don't already have one. (Click on "Log in / create account" at the top of this page)
  2. Explore the existing sub-pages here and feel free to play with making edits (Mistakes can always be rolled back)
  3. Choose a language or section to focus on and get started. If you have questions speak with one of the editors.

Basic steps in editing the template

[edit]
  1. Update all the links and three letter-codes for that language
  2. Do a Google search for pages about this language (Note: not about the ethnic group)
  3. Choose one section of a page and edit it as much as possible. Don't worry too much about errors because other editors will be checking for accuracy.

Examples on Wikipedia of language pages

[edit]

The official Languages of Mozambique page is here: Languages of Mozambique and Línguas de Moçambique Few of these pages have been adequately edited.

Pages developed by SIL linguist, Andreas Joswig

Note especially how these pages don't include all the sections and that developed sections are brief (A fuller description would have its own page, for example Nyungwe Phonology)

Volunteers

[edit]

These "job titles" aren't set in stone but give you some idea of where people's interests are.

  • David Ker (User:Kanyimbe): General editor, Nyungwe
  • Oliver Kroeger: Linguistics consultant
  • Jeff Shrum: Zambezia editor
  • Monica Moss: Lexicons, Zambezia languages
  • Cassie Robertson: Phonology, Chuwabo, Marrevone
  • Timothy Krug: Phonetics
