William Daley (1844-1922) Early pioneer. Was at Ft. Phil Kearney during the Fetterman Fight and at Promontory, Utah during the driving of the Golden Spike. Later a prominent banker and stockman.

One of nine children, Mr. Daley began as a shipbuilder on the Black River in his native home. In his prime, he was 6'3" and weighed 235 lbs.

As a teamster, Mr. Daley arrived in Fort Phil Kearney in the summer of 1866. There, on October 31st, he was responsible for the mechanics of the construction and erection of its flagpole which was 124' tall.

Mr. Daley eventually became a banker from his enterprise as a stockman with a ranch west of Rawlins that grew to 64,000 acres.
Guests at his ranch home included President Teddy Roosevelt.

Served 2 terms on the WY Territorial Council (not recorded as a participant in the suffrage act of 1869) and several terms in the WY Legislature.

Rawlins — There are three banks in RawHns. The First National was chartered 
in 1883; has a capital stock of $75,000; deposits of $853,000; J. E. Cosgriff, presi- 
dent; G. A. Bible, cashier. The Rawlins National Bank began business in 1900. 
Capital stock; $100,000; deposits, $1,180,000; William Daley, president; H. A. 
France, cashier. The Stock Growers National Bank was chartered in 1909 with a 
capital stock of $75,000. On January i, 1918, it reported deposits of 8447,000. 
J. M. Rumsey was then president and H. Breitenstein was cashier.

Durkee’s Bakery began as a small cake shop in Homer (NY) behind the family home (1920s?) before expanding to become the third largest bakery in America, and introduced the name Duncan Hines to the baking world (late 1930s?)...and the bakery soon turned to developing the Sunbeam Bread brand (mid 1950s?).
