Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Northern Province, Sri Lanka has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \bblog(?:cu|fa|harbor|mybrain|post|savy|spot|townhall)?\.com\b (links: http://srilankastateterrorism.blogspot.com/). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 21:12, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Provincial capitals of Sri Lanka, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I've put a greeting at the top of your page that has links you might find helpful. I'd like to point out a few things about the Wikipedia environment. I see that you seem to be in disagreement with another contributor in a couple of articles, including Northern Province, Sri Lanka and Mannar District. If you find yourself disagreeing with other editors about the way that an article is developing, it is important that you discuss your differences and reach consensus. If two people can't agree, others can be invited to participate. For example, in this case, a request for assistance at the talk page of the Wikipedia project Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka might bring some other opinions. Consensus is not a simple matter of counting votes, though, since it must always take into account policies and guidelines. These policies and guidelines reflect wider community consensus.

Generally, if you make changes to an article and another editor reverts them, it is recommended that you discuss the reasons why with the other editor. This is called the "bold, revert, discuss" cycle. It works well to help you avoid edit warring. Except in a very few cases (like where you're trying to remove copyright violations), reverting material in an article more than three times in a 24-hour period is forbidden and may result in your account being blocked from contributing to Wikipedia for a short time. But even if you don't revert more than three times, going back and forth within the article (and edit summaries) as opposed to in discussion on an article's talk may lead to an account being blocked. It's far better to discuss things and invite others. You may not always get the article exactly to the point you want, but if you wind up blocked from contributing, you won't have any say in how the article develops at all.

Please take a look at Wikipedia:Consensus and Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Remember that your discussions will have more impact if they are supported by policies and guidelines. The main content policies on Wikipedia are verifiability, neutral point of view and no original research. If you are familiar with these and the changes you propose meet them, you are more likely to persuade others to your point of view. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:41, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BlueLankan. I've taken out the text you added in relation to the Jaffna kingdom - most of what you'd added spoke generally about the presence of Tamils in Sri Lanka, and did not speak to the issue of whether the mediaeval Jaffna kingdom existed in the first millennium. The history of Sri Lankan Tamils before the Jaffna kingdom is dealt with in Sri Lankan Tamil people, where as you'll see there are plenty of references to the Pomparippu megalithic burials, the Poonagari inscriptions, Tissamaharama coins and much else. General information about the history of the Tamils in Sri Lanka should go into that article - Jaffna kingdom should really only be about the specific, attested history of the Jaffna kingdom itself. -- Arvind (talk) 18:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have also had to delete extensive text pasted into Northern Province, Sri Lanka from [2] [3] [4]. You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating copyright policy by copying text into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. A tag has been placed on File:Madhu Church TC 0226 2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Hello

[edit]

Hello BlueLankan,

We got of to a bad start so I just want to say hello and how are you first.

Obviously you are Tamil and I like your patriotism to your people and your country, but please do not let racism or prejudiceness control your edits on wikipedia. I am not saying that you are being raciest but continuous edits where removal of info related to other cultures and peoples suggests otherwise. Your blocking was due to copyright violations where you did not change the information into your own words, don't let that happen again because if you get caught again you will be blocked indefinitely, this wikipedia's policy not mine. Also please use reliably sources because you would obviously know that there are many sites on the internet that sends the wrong information to the public. I am talking to you as a friend and I urge you to follow all these policies, I also want these edit wars to end and please comment on the talk page of the article after you edit something.

I will be waiting for your reply and good luck with your editing.--Blackknight12 (talk) 10:34, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vanuatu template

[edit]

The Melanesia project banner has been "adjusted" in such a way as to nullify all Vanuatu assessments. I personally don't know what exactly was done to it, but have contacted the person who made the changes to see if he can fix it. As soon as I here something, I'll make sure all relevant articles are tagged. John Carter (talk) 18:11, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand

[edit]

None of the material you added to New Zealand appears to be accurate. There is a Tamil community in New Zealand, but Tamil is not in the top 20 languages spoken, according to the census data linked to. The festival of Pongal is largely unknown in New Zealand, at least outside of the Tamil community, unlike for example Chinese New Year, which is celebrated more widely than just in the Chinese community. Any connection between the movie Thoronai and New Zealand seems to be obscure. If you believe any of these is correct, please cite your sources.-gadfium 21:09, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template for Sri Lankan provinces

[edit]

I've cleaned it up some, and made it more in the style of {{Infobox Place Ireland}} (which looks cleanly done). Motto should work now, the mottos just needed to be added to the article and then they'll show up. If provinces have coat of arms or emblems or such, and someone uploads images of them to wikipedia, those can be added to the template too. There's still a bit more fixing / cleaning up I plan to do, but anything else you want done with it also I can change. -Mairi (talk) 00:47, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Article_titles.2C_headings.2C_and_sections, article titles are supposed to be in English (or at least in roman characters). This is a really hard entry title for anyone not familiar with Tamil to read, maybe you could come up with phoenetic equivalent or a translation. (This entry also mostly repeats information found at other pages.) Cheers. Hairhorn (talk) 02:00, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Your page is still on my watchlist following our communication above, and I just wanted to let you know that it is okay to copy material from one Wikipedia article to another, but you need to give credit. Wikipedia's contributors (including you) own the copyright to the text they place here. They just place it under a very generous license that allows others to reuse it, so long as certain conditions are met. One of those conditions is attribution.
The required way to attribute when you copy from one article to another is to put a note in the edit summary with a link back to the source article, saying something like "Text copied from [[Source article]]". It is also a good idea to make a note at the source article, particularly if there's a chance that it might ever be deleted for any reason, since the history of that article can't be removed as long as the new one remains. We also have a template for talk pages that is very useful, {{copied}}. We used to have different templates for each the source and destination articles, but have recently simplified by adopting one that works for both. You just place {{copied | to = destination article | from = source article | diff = url of edit where text is added}} to the talk pages.
When you copy text from one article to another, please take a moment to indicate the origin so that you comply with the copyright policy.
If this isn't clear, please let me know. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:16, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Eela Tamilakam, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eela Tamilakam. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. ≈ Chamal talk 08:32, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Racism?

[edit]

Hi, Blue Lankan. Your comment here seems to me like an accusation of racism. My edits to Sri Lanka related topics and elsewhere are based on facts and I'd like to ask you to point out one single edit that can be considered "racist" or POV. On the other hand, you have been making a lot of biased edits yourself. If you need any examples, here you go.

  • You removed perfectly cited info from List of districts of Sri Lanka. You can't remove info just because you think it's unwanted; that's what we have policies and guidelines for.
  • You removed the sinhala name from Jaffna once again saying that it is unwanted. This is clearly a violation of WP:NPOV since you kept the tamil name, and there is no reason to remove the sinhala translation from a page related to a country where sinhala is an official language. If your argument is that you did it because majority in the area was tamil, I must ask you why you thought it appropriate to add tamil translations to articles like Moneragala District.
  • You asked User:Eelamstylez77 to help you "fight" against the sinhalese who were challenging you. You have made this into a racism issue even before you started any real editing. Your edits were challenged because they were in mainly in violation of WP:NPOV, and not because you were tamil. And many of the editors who "challenged" your edits are not Sinhalese. We have less than (unless I'm much mistaken) 5 sinhalese active fulltime editors in Wikipedia, and I can assure you that they have better things to do than add or remove information about tamils. There are a large number of tamil editors on Wikipedia, so that would be a waste of time even if it was attempted.
  • You removed info from Nainathivu claiming it to be unsourced, and in the very next edit you added uncited info of the same type you removed. Policies and guidelines apply to everyone and you are no exception.
  • Your edits to mainly Northern Province (a page which I have been watching) were highly biased towards the tamil point of view. I can understand your feelings but that does not allow you to violate WP:NPOV which all our articles must strictly adhere to. However, your recent edits seem to have been improved a lot on that aspect, and I must congratulate you on that.

There are many similar edits in your contributions, and this is enough information to report you at WP:ANI or WP:NPOVN. However, I believe you have potential to be a good editor as you learn how things work here. Please don't let your race or religion cloud your judgement. For example, User:Taprobanus was a tamil editor who was an invaluable editor of Sri Lanka related topics. He doesn't edit much now, but he always stuck to a neutral point of view whether it was a tamil, sinhala or whatever related issue. Check out his contributions, you'll see what I mean. There are a very small number of people who edit Sri Lanka related topics. Those who do should be working together, not against each other. If you think there's a problem with another editor's edits, you're of course welcome to say so and discuss with them. Also, don't expect the other editor to open the discussion; it's better to start yourself and avoid any edit warring in the article. Being civil never hurts. I'm hoping and looking forward to working with you. ≈ Chamal talk 03:13, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have already met Taprobanus. He contacted me on this matter, and you might be interested in his comment and my reply here. ≈ Chamal talk 07:19, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your comments on my talk page. First regarding your user page. It is great but ypu have under my contributions, specially Did you know main page articles that you had helped DYK for example Duraiappa stadium mass grave. I dont really care about these claims but others may decide that you are misrepresenting yourself. Everything is based on trust and rules in Wikipedia. I think your conduct is based on the fact you are new to Wikipedia rather than misrepresentation. Anyay regarding Nagatheepam, it is a fictional place only mentioned in Manimekalai a Buddhist chronicle (primary source). Also please understand Chamal is one great guy dont jump to conclusions about him. Taprobanus (talk) 12:00, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nagatheepam

[edit]

The thing is, "Nagatheepam" appears to be different than what is given in the article, from what Taprobanus said. I'm not familiar with this, maybe you should ask him to help you if he can? Most of the information you have added to the article seems to be about other subjects (which I have mentioned earlier). You should add this information to those separate articles. sources don't mention Nagatheepam or Eela Tamilakam as the tamil-speaking part of Sri Lanka, which means it falls under WP:OR. Remember that every piece of information we add here must be verifiable.

Might I suggest that you participate in Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User project? If you get an experienced editor to guide you for a few weeks, you might get an idea on how things work here, and you will be able to edit without problems like this. ≈ Chamal talk 06:33, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nagadeepa is an ancient division of Sri Lanka correponding to the Jaffna peninsual. Today it only referes to the Island of Nainathhevu in Sinhalese. It is mentioned by Manimekalai as well under the Tamil name. There used to be sub kings called Dweeparaja's who held sway. I have a book on it by Indrapala, when I have time I will get in to it. Right now back to being busy. Give me some time. Taprobanus (talk) 19:33, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Province, Sri Lanka

[edit]

Hey we are all Sri Lanka and we are suppose to be working together, no hard feelings and no problems. I have been pretty busy lately but I have been watching your edits to the Northern Province, Sri Lanka page and I am very impressed by your recent edits and how much you have improved. You have added a lot of valuable information and have proven that you are a valuable member to WikiProject Sri Lanka (not that you have to). Because you are involved with mostly the Tamil speaking areas of Sri Lanka I would like to ask you if you could also edit the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka page (if you have the time) and maybe the non Tamil speaking provinces of Sri Lanka. Also I have seen that you have edited the Towns in Northern Province, Sri Lanka page, this page and the others in this series (List of towns in Sri Lanka) are not very developed so if you also have time could you please add some, I have a link which you can use [7]. Also try to edit all your information in one revision. I see you later and good luck.--Blackknight12 (talk) 01:05, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Tamil naadu, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Hi

[edit]

Browsed your article on the Northern Province. Nice work. LOL. Unfortunately Wikipedia is not a blog - it is an encyclopedia. I won't even bother to revise any of what you have written there. Can't understand why anybody will waste so much time writing all that. It is good work really, Thambi, but please use your time productively. I see you are college student - use your time to study hard and be someone. Sri Lanka's history is a written and recorded one, how ever much you waste your time with projects like this, it will not change. I don' have the heart nor the time to edit your article. But, the first Sinhalese who reads it, is going to see stars LOL, and start deleting everything. The flag on your page and in the article is not of any ancient Eela Tamilakam LOL. It is the flag of the Jaffna Kingdom - it is so cute, and hope one day to see that cute cow/bull in the Sri Lankan flag, embracing a milder sweeter version of the lion. But, listing Aryachakravarti as a dynasty and ancient empire together with the great Chera, Chola and Pandyan Kingdoms, is completely unaceptable and will get the Tamils in India worked up, too. Late 1200's is not ancient in the context we are talking, when you compare it to the Sinhalese civilisation and the above mentioned Tamil Kingdoms. Don't make a joke of Tamil history, and show some interest in other issues of our country, other than just Tamil issues. Use your head and seek the truth. Regards. Yalpana Vaipava Malai and Jaffna Library fire

[edit]

Please read the discussion, before making any changes to the article. If you want to mention what Rasanayagam states in the book "Ancient Jaffna" in the article itself, it is okay, although I think it is purely a diversion to mention anything other than what the book is about. Ofcourse if you have an authentic and acceptable proof that this book was lost in that fire, then it must be mentioned. Upto today I have not seen any and there are no sources stated in the Jaffna Library Fire article, either. SriSuren (talk) 02:52, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reuse of Wikipedia material

[edit]

You were advised of the necessary requirements for reusing Wikipedia's content here. I find that you copied material into Mullaitivu District in August from Sri Lankan Tamil people and Jaffna kingdom. Failure to attribute creates a licensing violation which puts you in violation of the copyright of previous contributors. See the relevant portion of the copyrights policy. For now, I have restored the article to the point before your introduction of that text. If you would like to incorporate that language, you may do so, but only if you give proper credit. If you do not know how to do this, please let me know. I'll be happy to help. Without that attribution, the text can't be restored. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:05, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinitely blocked

[edit]

I am further investigating your contributions and not only finding additional copyright violations occasioned by reuse of Wikipedia material without attribution, but also finding that you have further copied external sources without verifying permission. Currently, the articles Northern Province, Sri Lanka, Tourism of Northern Province, Sri Lanka and Natural history of Northern Province, Sri Lanka are blanked pending resolution of copyright issues, including material duplicated from http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/sydney/jaffna.htm, http://srilanka.tourism-asia.net/aquatic-life.html, http://www.dailynews.lk/2007/09/22/spice01.asp, http://www.jaffnaroyalfamily.org/history.php, http://lankalibrary.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1110, http://www.manrecap.com/dugong.html (and other subpages), [8], [9] and more. I have not yet finished reviewing your contributions and suspect based on what I've seen already that I will find more problems.

Given the additional evidence of what I have found, I don't believe that a time-expiration block is appropriate. You've been cautioned multiple times and even blocked before, but have continued violating copyright as recently as September 21st. Accordingly, I have converted your block to "indefinite." This is not the same thing as infinite. You have made many good contributions to Wikipedia, and I personally would like to see you continue if you can give some plausible assurance that you understand that you cannot paste copied content onto Wikipedia without following procedures. If the material was generated by other contributors, you have to give credit. If it wasn't, you just can't use it, unless you can prove permission. Sometimes you will be able to use brief quotations of copyrighted material as set out at non-free content guideline and policy, but you can never copy text extensively, and you must indicate that you are copying it verbatim.

The block notice you removed here contains instructions for appealing this block. You can follow the same procedure to request that the block be lifted. However, I think you will need to give some indication that you understand and intend to comply with the copyrights policy before that should happen. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:06, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For anyone reviewing this block, please note that this user has additionally been editing under User:Arunantamil and User:Lanka Rakshashan as  Confirmed by checkuser. All of these accounts have been blocked. Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:09, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I agree that I do copied text from other sources. I am sorry for what I did. I agree here after I wont do that again. Kindly allow me to do minor edits and good contribution by not going against wikipedia policies and guidelines --BlueLankan (talk) 19:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This does not address the problem of abusing multiple accounts. I also remain unconvinced that you understand our copyright policy or even the concept of copyright.  Sandstein  20:02, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Nomination for deletion of Template:Tamil Canadian

[edit]

Template:Tamil Canadian has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Frietjes (talk) 17:53, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:User WikiProject Vanuatu2 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --TheImaCow (talk) 11:21, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
