Changing dates on categories

[edit]

Hello, Boudewijn,

Please do not randomly decide to change one category to your preferred format of dating. It is disruptive. Please review MOS:BCE and MOS:STYLEVAR for guidance on dates. If you look at other millennium in Category:Establishments by millennium, you'll see that they all use the BC date format. Deciding to create your own, competing category that is BCE is not how these changes are made on Wikipedia. You don't take an existing category like Category:4th-millennium BC establishments and stick a redirect tag on it. First, that is not how redirect categories are created (there is a template for it) and secondly, this category has existed for 11 years and shouldn't be changed to a redirect because one editor doesn't like it.

Personally, in my academic work, I used BCE/CE so I prefer that notation but Wikipedia works on consensus and, especially for categories, you have to work within an existing category structure. Should you wish to try to change all BC categories to BCE, please make a proposal at Categories for discussion. That is the proper route to make a sweeping change like this to category names. Hi Liz, Thank you for explaining patiently and in a clear way that I actually vandalized Wikipedia (without a trace of intention in that direction). I did see that the other categories use BC/AD, and recognized the breach of style. It was also quite a hassle to get all links hooked up to keep integrity. I imagined the work to make the change had held people back, and thought with a category at a time, things would work out. I realize now that a concerted effort would be preferable. I'll post a note on your talk page, if I can get it in the right format. Best regards, Boudewijn
PS I see you already repaired the changes I made, thank you for taking the time.

Kaientai (band) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Kaientai (band), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
