Table captions

[edit]

Sometimes, table captions can seem a bit redundant, but it is my understanding that they are used by screen readers and as such improve an article's accessibility, see for more info MOS:DTAB. Maybe the subsection titles can be removed to avoid repetition in Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's 400 metres hurdles? – Editør (talk) 15:34, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Or the tables could be merged into one table with a Heat column like in Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Mixed 4 × 400 metres relay. – Editør (talk) 15:36, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at every pretty much every single previous article covering every single event for athletics at the olympics and you'll find individual heat tables without headers. You've only added these headers on 2 articles that have Dutch participants doing well so unless you're gonna go through the previous 1000+ articles covering athletics events at the olympics and add headers then the status quo should be kept and the headers shouldn't be there. Consistency within an article seems more important than consistency across different articles. I don't mind the latter, but I don't mind diversity either. However, I don't think consistency of 1000+ articles is a reasonable requirement for improving individual articles according to the manual of style. – Editør (talk) 16:15, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have no interest in arguing this any further, 2/1000+ articles being different seems silly to me but if dutch athletes doing well in those events means that then so be it I guess Brandon Downes (talk) 16:40, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how the nationality of athletes are relevant to the manual of style for tables. – Editør (talk) 16:56, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
