Sorry, Chefmikesf, to put it mildly, I do not approve of contributions to Wikipedia for money, although, I suppose, it happens a lot. I might be overly idealistic, but in my view, you are compromising the whole idea of Wikipedia. Sundar1 (talk) 08:12, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your Request

[edit]

Hello Chefmikesf, I appreciate you reaching out asking for aid, but unfortunately, as much as I am good with translating articles, the subject of request is beyond my expertise, which means it will double or triple the time to review and edit articles. You can check over Wikipedia:Contributing_to_Wikipedia to see if there are resources out there to help you pair up with those who are better suited for the subject. Thanks, and wish you best. Please read about Copying

[edit]

Hello. New attempts are welcome.

Please meet the requirements of copying. It seems to be copying to the sandbox of each country version. However, it does not conform to CC-BY-SA. For example, in the Japanese version, there is concern that it will be deleted if there is no link in the edit summary. In that case, we can not copy from your sandbox. Please read: Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, especially Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia#Translating from other language Wikimedia projects.

Additions to Chinese Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi User:Warren Leywon, I'm working on translating Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from English into Chinese and was wondering if you have time to help me out. I found your username on Wikipedia:Translate_us and saw that you're fluent in both English and Chinese. I have a paid COI regarding Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, but my primary concern here is ensuring that the information available in English is available and up to date in Chinese as well. I have a translated version of the article on SANDBOX. Would you mind reviewing it for accuracy as well as its compliance with Wikipedia guidelines? Thanks!--Chefmikesf (talk) 23:37, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,User:Chefmikesf. I would like to help you translate but currently, the final exams are coming and I am busy with preparing for them,it will last for several weeks until January 13th the next year. So temporary I have no time to help translating, sorry if you are worry about that. And also,Wikipedia has a very complex guidelines and codes, even I could not grasp them all. Anyway, I got a look at the translated article and think that is well done at first glance. But I want to suggest that you should use the word “肿瘤医院” instead of "癌症医院",only when referring to the name of the hospital. You can freely use "癌症" where there is necessary to describe the name of diseases related to cancer. The reason is that in Chinese culture, the word “癌症” has a bad meaning and always indicates something bad will happen, and if chosen for the name of a hospital,it will bring bad luck to it, either. Therefore, most hospitals in China will use the word "肿瘤" when naming their hospitals. Both words are the same, all mean "cancer". But “肿瘤” is relatively neutral over “癌症",since it doesn't indicate something bad. And when comes to the cancer as a disease, you should use "癌症" in order to convey the academical accuracy. It is an intricate linguistic aspect of Chinese. So you should pay attention to it. Warren Leywon (talk) Warren Leywon (talk) 04:19, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Happy New Year Warren Leywon! I hope you had a successful series of final exams. Thanks for the input regarding the nuances of Chinese Language culture. I understand you have a lot on your plate right now so I will be brief. If we adjust these changes, do you have an estimate of copy edits needed before this sandbox would be ready to publish?Chefmikesf (talk) 23:39, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,Chefmikesf. Would you mind if I directly make changes to that on your sandbox? There is editing history so that if I do something improperly, you can revert my editing to a previous point. Thanks for your blessing, hope I won't flunk any of them.
Sincerely,Warren Leywon (talk) 12:28, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have edited your sandbox and may it helps you.Because somehow a technical problem, half of my editing is not properly saved, and it means my nearly half-hour work will just become ineffective.I have try to make the changes that I did conform with contemporary mainland simplified Chinese language users' usages, and I know rather less on traditional Chinese grammars or Wenyan's way of expressing. As I know, wikipedia in Chinese has long been blocked out and totally inaccessible.I don't know if '维基大典' is the 'canonical Chinese wikipedia' and is very curious about its idiosyncratic features.Could you tell me more about that?
Sincerely,Warren Leywon (talk) 14:06, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Warren Leywon I’m sure you will ace all your exams! I see the point you have made and appreciate the edits to the sandbox. Feel free to engage in open collaboration with this page. After examining your criticism, I trust in your abilities and believe you have good intentions to bring the current MSK Wikipedia page to the Chinese language Wikipedia. Do you feel comfortable petitioning this article for publishing? Chefmikesf (talk) 21:23, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to work in your other changes, but there was some ugly hiccup in the ref templates and I threw in the towel, but I may yet get to them. I guess I thought the lead was too long, with the added hazard (as you pointed out in a way) of having a lot of information that might quickly fall out of date. And once I decided to move stuff out of the lead, I decided it was hard to decide where to put it, so I thought better sectionalization might help someone reading the article find the information they are looking for quickly if they needed to delve any further. -- Kendrick7talk 00:13, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Honeywell changes 11-DEC-2019

[edit]

Hello! I have reverted the changes you made at Talk:Honeywell because those changes did not follow the guidelines for posting on talk pages found at WP:REDACTED. Those guidelines involve using strikeout font for items being removed and underlined font for added items. As the changes in this particular case involve removing text which was already displayed using strikeout font, the double-use of strikeout font to show that this text is being removed is not possible. Thus the edit request needs to be placed as an entirely new request at the bottom of the talk page. It's best not to use strikeout font in the first place when indicating text that is to be removed from the article. In those cases its always better to place the text to be removed in its own section immediately before the verbatim text which is to replace it. An example for doing this is shown below:

Sample edit request

1. Please remove the third sentence from the second paragraph of the Sun section:

"The Sun's diameter is estimated to be approximately 25 miles in length."

2. Please add the following claim as the third sentence of the second paragraph of the Sun section:

"The Sun's diameter is estimated to be approximately 864,337 miles in length.[3]"

Copyvios

[edit]

Hi, Chefmikesf, I ran Earwig's Copyvio Detector on the J&J article this morning, and there are serious issues with copy from three of the cited articles. None of the copyright vios appear to be in the early history update, which is what I was checking, but there are entire paragraphs in the rest of the article lifted from sources. These need to be either deleted, parphrsed, summarized, or quoted with attribution. Today, if possible! Thanks for your attention to this legal obligation. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:38, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

hello Grand'mere Eugene,
~Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ve been working on the article for over a year to improve the content to meet Wikipedia’s guidelines. I noticed there are many section that still need major work. Currently I’m working on the research and rewrite process for the rest of the history so I’m totally open to work on this with you. Just to confirm, the content we worked on is OK—Chefmikesf (talk) 20:17, 29 October 2020 (UTC) ?[reply]
Right, no detected problems with the early history sections. It is also possible that after the article was written, there may have been copying from the WP article into the sources tha now show up as likely copyvio, a process known as Wikipedia:CITOGENESIS, or circular re-pulication. At any rate, the J&J article does need attention to removing/revising likely copyvio. Oh, and I've clipped a few possible source articles from newspapers.com which I'll list on the article's talk page. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 21:40, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, That's a good theory Grand'mere Eugene. Like I said, I will continue to research and redevelop the rest of the History section to meet Wikipedia's guidelines. Can I contact you when I'm ready to present? Also thank you for providing additional sources from Newspaper.com. I'll read them today!--Chefmikesf (talk) 18:55, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've undone the edit and added the article to my watchlist (for 30 days, FWIW). Some sort of protection might be warranted, but for the time being this is low-level stuff (both frequency and seriousness), so let's see whether it continues or not. GregorB (talk) 21:45, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re: MSK Physician-Scientist Bios

[edit]

Hello!

The applicable piece of guideline here is WP:COIU. Adding an external link actually isn't listed by WP:COIU as a kind of an "unambiguously uncontroversial edit"; repairing an EL is, but these are different things nevertheless. Still, given the straightforward, "formal" nature of the inserted link (an infobox param) and the uncontroversial nature of the actual URL target (personal webpages hosted by an organization), I'm struggling to find anything substantially problematic in your particular case. Since you listed all the URLs beforehand, and I agreed these are uncontroversial, this kinda counts as an independent review, but you still can't really invoke WP:COIU in the edit summary if you do it yourself. To be on the safe side, I'll do it, tomorrow. Will notify you when it's done. GregorB (talk) 21:56, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks GregorB!--Chefmikesf (talk) 22:47, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did Charles Sawyers like this - provided the title text through the {{URL}} template because these URLs are fairly long. Would this be OK? GregorB (talk) 17:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
GregorB This is great, as long as the text matches the link. Nancy Y. Lee and Luis A. Diaz are biography pages, not labs. --Chefmikesf (talk) 18:10, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's right, I took that title from the actual target page - will try to do the equivalent for the rest. GregorB (talk) 18:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done, except:
  1. Alexander Rudensky - no infobox, URL already present in the EL section
  2. Nancy Y. Lee - same
  3. Luis A. Diaz - URL already present both in the infobox (via Wikidata, interesting) and in the EL section
