About conflict of interest

[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. LittleOldMe (talk) 09:58, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to delete the article, place {{db-author}} at the top. The "orphan" tag, however, is not an indication of non-notability, nor is it in any way a reason for deleting the article. The tag simply indicates that the article is not linked to in very many other articles. Click on the blue links in the orphan template to learn more. I am a bit concerned that the article contains a lot of genealogical information not really appropriate for an encyclopedia article (in other words, though I'm sure he's a fine person, we don't necessarily care about his ancestry but about his own accomplishments. See section two here.) I'd also suggest that you read through the links in the welcome message above to get a better feel for how Wikipedia works. To learn about Wikipedia and help the project, it's also good to edit some articles other than the ones in which you have a vested interest. I'm not trying to discourage you, just pointing out some of our policies and guidelines in order that you understand how we do things there. Thanks! Katr67 (talk) 17:36, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably should be unblocked

[edit]

Despite my attempt at an explanation in June, above, this user, who created the article s/he is continually blanking, thinks that because the article has an orphan tag, it should be deleted. I'm going to tag the article as a speedy as that seems to be what the author wants. It would really help if s/he would communicate with us. But I don't think all the vandal tagging and blocking were necessary either. Cheers, Katr67 (talk) 08:08, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
