Burns supper

[edit]

Why, thank you! At one time I would have accepted a Burns haggis without any becoming modesty, almost as my due, since I believed I was some sort of cousin of the great man, maybe even a descendant on the wrong side of the blanket, that being the family legend. Sadly, like most family legends, it proved as reliable as a Dali watch. By the way, I suppose you've heard that the second line of Burns' To a Haggis, "Great chieftain o' the puddin'-race", machine-translates into German and back as "Mighty Führer of the sausage people". No? You'll always remember it now. I have no idea who I'm going to pass the WikiHaggis on to, since I don't really socialize around here much. Maybe a random act of kindness then? I'll give it some thought.

It's now beyond all doubt that my bad wrist is caused by the mouse and keyboard, so I'm trying to fight it by regressing into the mid 20th century as far as I can, though giving up Wikipedia entirely is, of course, not possible. I'll be uploading an article on Sir Walter's Rokeby later today, but it won't be anything special. Till then, fair fa' your honest sonsie face. --Antiquary (talk) 11:33, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm trying to feel happy, but if only it had been that nice Tim Henman instead. He might not have liked the haggis but he'd have damn well pretended he did. Come on, Tim! --Antiquary (talk) 20:16, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was a fan of Henman too, but he had to contend with Sampras and the rest, a tall order, just as Murray has had to deal with Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. I also like the transplanted Aussie Laura Robson. I think she'll be a top ten player in future. INeverCry 22:29, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can relate to the family legend: my paternal grandmother, whose last name was Shaw, claimed to be a descendant of George Bernard (who I loathe). Luckily the theory has since been disproven.

I share the wrist issue, to a lesser degree obviously, but I've found I can do alot of editing here and especially on commons left-handed, when the right acts up. Anyways, my face usually isn't the most "sonsie" thing around, but...there, I just screwed it up into a quick smile. I'll be on the look-out for old Rokeby. • Thanks for your contributions to this, and other recent book articles I've been working on! I am fascinated that some of the most popular writings from the 1800s are so neglected today. "Crap" has always been popular and influential, we shouldn't ignore it.--Milowenthasspoken 13:11, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your trophy

[edit]

Wow, you Commons editors (Commoners?) really know how to get the most out of a simple image, don't you? And even excluding that trophy you've now had four barnstars in two months, which must make you one of the most popular people they've got. If I were in your position I'd be running for President. --Antiquary (talk) 11:27, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Archimedes image

[edit]

I wish to appeal you not deleting the Archimedes Pi image. The fact that it is widely used does not make it appropriate. It did fit the text before I revised it on 3rd October despite the page having over 300 watchers. Nobody objected to my deletion request. I have now uploaded an image from Commons which fits the text properly. This article averages over 3,500 views per day so it's important to be correct. Thank you. (BTW I didn't get notification when you refused the request for deletion so when I discovered you had refused it I was rather surprised) Sceptic1954 (talk) 15:54, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can re-nominate the image for deletion. I'll let another admin handle it. INeverCry 17:45, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,commons accept only free images but files and images from various websites are used on articles too but i dont understand how to get permission for using these files on article and what changes applied on images to use them.Thanks.---zeeyanketu talk to me 19:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permission for a file from the internet can be sent to Commons via OTRS or a declaration of a free license can be given at the source website. Alternatively, a file can be uploaded here or to other local wikis under Fair use if there's no free license. INeverCry 20:58, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Quick question

[edit]

Re your message: I think it falls into the gray area where it isn't outright spam, but really isn't a good idea either. It copies a lot from Ice Cube, too. I think it would eventually fall under WP:FAKEARTICLE and sent to WP:MFD. I'll leave the editor a note about their attempts at self-promotion. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:37, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A night's work to be proud of

[edit]

Congratulations, that's a very nice little article. I admire your persistence in putting in another of those difficult Themes and Criticism sections all the more because I find my patience with writing them gets less and less. Thanks also for illustrating the Richard articlet, a possibility I'd entirely forgotten to look into.

You may be surprised at this speedy response, but I'm doing my best to work on the Coleridge article tonight. Damn but this arm hurts! --Antiquary (talk) 20:15, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's really a very good story. I found a little crappy review of it on some website that was disgusting and stupid enough to make me want to do it some slight justice. The idea of doing something better for the Great Lady herself has been with me for quite a while, but that's a serious undertaking that'll have to wait for better days. I'll be reading her as happily as I'm capable of being for some time to come.

Articles without images to brighten them up make me restless, and I'm glad the simple old Richard was acceptable to you. I'm sure your Colridge article will be a quality thing as usual. I did a clumsy expansion of his son's article a long time ago.

I just got off the phone with a stuttering and maddeningly confusing ebay "help" person, so talking to you a bit is a relief. Somehow a grown man wasn't able to give me a proper adress to send his package to, so rather than getting some unexpected present the other day, I walked out in the rain to the waiting mailman to be given my own damned well-traveled box back again. ;) INeverCry 21:20, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi,

I don't understand the reasons for this image being deleted. My understanding is that under fair-use it was being used within the article as no official box art has been released yet. Unless you are going delete every game image from Wikipedia this seems like an unnecessary deletion. NotMiserable (talk) 19:01, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NotMiserable. Fair use images aren't allowed on Commons. If you want to use a fair-use image like the above, it must be uploaded here instead. See Wikipedia:Fair use. INeverCry 19:20, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

[edit]
The Society Barnstar
To INeverCry, for your wonderful contributions in articles on Russian poetry and culture. Watch this. My very best wishes (talk) 06:41, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What a nice surprise! Thank you. There's so much more to be done though!

I love the song and the photos. That isn't a part of Soviet life I'm use to seeing. I'm more accustomed to soldiers, workers, and some other more grim subjects. My friend Volodya is the real deal for a writer though. My stuff is on a smaller scale altogether.

Thanks again for the barnstar, and the video, which I'll have to watch a couple more times. Good luck with your studies. INeverCry 07:12, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you also accomplished quite a few things. Surprisingly, I did not know anything about Anna Barkova... As about the song, this is a translation from Paul Verlaine, but I think a very interesting interpretation by someone who created the video (you could compare with this). The last phrase, "what I have done with my life", in this context, well, this is something a lot of people asked themselves. Actually, I run into this after listening songs by Elena Frolova (you may check links here if you are interested in). Happy editing, My very best wishes (talk) 16:46, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article for Anna is short, but pretty well done. The Gulag photo is really something special. She's one of my favorites, along with Valentina Dmitryeva and Lidia Veselitskaya. Russian and Soviet women writers are of especial interest for me. I still have quite a bit of work to do on my other favorite, Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaya. The list goes on and on... some day... INeverCry 19:33, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is too far back in time for me. However I noticed that you created Veronika Tushnova whose poetry I liked. My favorite Russian women poet was Tsvetaeva, and her article is not really in good condition; so maybe me or someone else will fix it later. I had a discussion about it with another participant [1], but this all boils down to looking more carefully in sources. My very best wishes (talk) 21:05, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tsvetaeva is a major poet of course, though I've mostly read her prose, aside from a few short poems. Her life story, especially the end, and the story of her family are among the grim subjects I mentioned above. Her article does need quite a bit of work, as do those of her great contemporaries Blok and Yesenin, whose poetry I'm more familiar with. Some day... Atleast Anna Akhmatova is a GA. INeverCry 22:33, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, especially Yesenin. I tried to fix it a little, but this requires a more significant effort, like Evermore2 did in articles about Bunin and Vysotsky. My very best wishes (talk) 23:07, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP Poetry and The Canterbury Tales task force

[edit]

As someone who is listed as a participant for WikiProject Poetry, I hope you will be interested to learn of an attempt to revive the WP and alongside this the creation of task force to improve coverage of The Canterbury Tales. We are currently looking for participants to help set up the basics. Please get involved if you can, and we can hopefully revive this important project within Wikipedia! Many thanks, MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 18:36, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Has it really been 6 months since I last worked on WP:Poetry?! Considering the lack of recognized content creation in regard to poetry-related articles, there's probably only a few GAs/FAs/DYKs to add to the main page. There's 100 or so articles to be assessed, which shouldn't be a problem; I ended up assessing 1000+ poetry articles back in June/July. As for Chaucer, I haven't read him yet. When I do, I'll probably get involved with his articles and TF. INeverCry 20:25, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I look forward to having you involved in the future. At the moment we're just trying to get consensus on the structure of articles etc., so if you could spare any opinion that would be very helpful (and as it's a matter of style, you don't even need to have read Chaucer yet). MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 17:33, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

World War II

[edit]

Hiya, long time, no talk.
You've recently been purging a lot of imagery. That's fine in general.
Some have been disappearing from my WWII film list pages. I had a hell of a time finding any free images that I could use in the first place. And now most are gone.
The most recent was Daffy - The Commando.
That was an image of the cartoon's title card. That is definitely disallowed?
Merry Christmas, Varlaam (talk) 18:53, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Varlaam. It certainly has been a long time. The image is unacceptable for Commons because the Daffy Duck character and the other are copyrighted by Warner Bros. You should look into uploading fair-use images for these articles. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! INeverCry 23:09, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orley Farm

[edit]

Good picture, and you've done a nice job of improving the contrast. I'd be inclined to put it into the Trollope article: maybe delete the Harrow photo (which I think I inserted, just so there'd be more illustrations in the article) and put the new picture in on the right side. Ammodramus (talk) 23:39, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I figured you'd like a bit of Trollopiana. I've added it to his article. Can you take a look at the caption, and see if it can be bettered? Millais illustrated 4 of Trollope's novels, according to him in his autobiography; I might upload some of these once I've read the books and can give better descriptions of the illustrations. The foxing in the archive.org Orley Farm is bit of a pain. INeverCry 01:21, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I added a comma, but otherwise couldn't think of a way to improve it.
Have you seen Ellen Moody's Trollope website? You might find it useful, if you want to go into the matter of Trollope's illustrations. Ammodramus (talk) 02:58, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That helps. I've read 2 and 1/2 of the Millais-illustrated novels (Crosby and Lily got to me a bit, and so I layed that one down). I'll read the whole thing at some point, especially as it's connected to The Last Chronicle. I loved Rachel Ray, though I read it 7 or 8 years ago, so I may or may not remember it as I look through it. As for Framely, I remember that best, though Mark Robarts isn't the strongest or most appealing character of Trollope's. The Orley illustrations may take some time to fix up and get ready for uploading with all that foxing. INeverCry 03:47, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Truthfully, Lily Dale's wounded-fawn act annoys me too. However, I keep re-reading Small House because I enjoy the parts about Mr Palliser's attempted elopement with Lady Dumbello. Ammodramus (talk) 16:56, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

[edit]

Hello!

I hope you don't mind me bothering you but I came across you at RFA and noticed that you're an admin at Commons :)

Wondering if you can take a look at this image please? To me that does not look to be a genuine image, it's not the sort of image that I would expect to be released into the public domain. To me it looks as if that has been put together by someone or doctored in some way. Myself and another admin have been looking into this image for a few weeks now, we've searched everywhere we can think of and nothing is showing up this image. We are only admins on Wikipedia though, not Commons. I was going to list it for deletion but thought I'd ask if there's any additional checks that yourselves at Commons can perform first of all to check if the image is genuine?

There might also be an issue with the username, look at who the author is :)

How do you suggest proceeding with this?--5 albert square (talk) 22:46, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated the file for deletion. Sometimes finding the source can be hard. It could be a screenshot or a scan. INeverCry 00:18, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Poetry project

[edit]

Hi INeverCry, thank you for all your work in assessing and doing ratings for poetry-related articles. In part, due to your level of activity, I removed the "semi-active" tag from the "Wikipedia:WikiProject Poetry" page. I also re-rated a couple of articles, notably "Li sao" and "Quan Tangshi", because they are more important from the perspective of a poetic and an encyclopedic standpoint than it may appear through the use of the AutoWikiBrowser and the current development status of those two articles: especially considering their particular relative importance within the realm of Chinese poetry the importance of Chinese contributions to world poetry. Anyway, the article rating process is an interesting one, and, again, thank you for your contributions to it. Dcattell (talk) 17:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dcattell. Thanks for removing that semi-active tag. I also updated the GA list. As for the ratings, your expertise on Chinese poetry is a good thing for WP:Poetry, and I'm glad to hear you've improved some of my ratings. INeverCry 21:12, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help on How to Create a Mind

[edit]

Thanks for assessing How to Create a Mind as Start Class. Any advice on how to improve it to C class? I've seen the guidelines which say "more reliable sources" mainly, but I wondered if you had anything specific to the article. I could really expand the "content" section with arbitrarily more summarization of the book. Where as the "reception" section has pretty much all the major reviews I could find already. But would more content section really help? Probably I will just let it simmer as Start class for a while, and move on to other things, but just wanted to know for the future. Thanks. Silas Ropac (talk) 04:18, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would first suggest you use Wikipedia:BOOKS#Article_structure as a guideline, especially when it comes to organizing the material you already have. A better lead is needed. A section giving background info would probably be a good idea - maybe something detailing his studies, influences, other books he's written that're related, main ideas, etc. A topic like "PRTM" might even be better as a sub-section or independent section. What you have as "Reception" could be seperated into "Reception" and "Analysis" sections, dividing the reactions to the book and how it's written from comments on and criticism of the author's ideas and theories themselves. As for the content section, I would recommend making it cover the book as evenly as possible, so that a reader feels they're getting a general overview of the book. I would also get rid of the sentence "Reception of this book has been mixed." Anyways, the article could be rated C as it is, but I tend to rate things pretty conservatively. INeverCry 04:59, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks those sound like really great suggestions, I agree they all sound like improvements. Am I allowed to copy your comment to the article talk page for reference? Or should I just link to here? Silas Ropac (talk) 14:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to copy it, that would be fine. I have a bot set up to automatically archive this page, so if you want to just link to it, you'd have to wait untill it's in the archive. INeverCry 21:35, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Russian poetry
Thank you for quality articles on Russian writers and poets and their work, for reviewing and helping, for the picture gallery - artists seen by artists - on your user page, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thanks so much Gerda! I've been so busy on Commons that my Russian lit stuff here has fallen off quite a bit, but there's more to come. I'm glad you like my gallery. I can't begin to tell you what beloved people those great writers are to me, how much their wonderful works mean to me, and how important they are in my life. INC, thank you for your support during my RfA, and please accept my congratulations on your successful promotion to admin. I trust we can all bring our Commons upload questions to you! Regards, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:21, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DL. I was sorry to see your RFA didn't pass. Hopefully, come Summer or Fall, you can do another with better results. I had an RFA on Commons that I did for someone else go badly a while back, (another gentleman who I really thought and still think would be a great admin), and so the feeling of disappointment is unfortunately familiar.

As for upload questions, I of course welcome anything that doesn't start with "why did you delete my image?!". INeverCry 23:38, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(watching) I miss PumpkinSky, photographer of the sapphire above, since his unsucessful RfA, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:41, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not too familiar with him, but I've always felt that the "awesome wikipedian" award was a great thing all around. It's really good to see that you're keeping that going. INeverCry 20:35, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
He (Rlevse/PumpkinSky) did it for the longest time, did you know? Just follow the link to the archive. His RfA was termed an attack page while it went on, he didn't take it, had suffered too much before. It's a loss for the project, and for me especially, because we did Kafka together last year, now I am left behind without much knowledge of the sources, - I was there for the German. Would you know how to respond to the latest question on the talk? Could you help me watching? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alot of really great editors like PumpkinSky have left us, but atleast we still have their contributions. As for Kafka, I know nothing of him or Modernist writers in general. I also know nothing when it comes to FA, so I doubt I'd be any help on the Kafka article. Isn't Truthkeeper involved with that article? INeverCry 21:07, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Truthkeeper is great help, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:13, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The content is basically 2 details about how great his mixtape is and that he's a "rapper to watch", which can be taken as promotional intent considering that the significance of the subject is in doubt. INeverCry 05:04, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've restored the article. INeverCry 05:32, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you kindly!--Milowenthasspoken 05:45, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes thanks. Do you still think it met G11? G11 is for unambiguous cases, no? Biosthmors (talk) 22:03, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're both welcome. INeverCry 22:22, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Biosthmors - My first impression was that this was a promo page for a non-notable individual. You and Milowent helped me to see that this wasn't the case, and that G11 didn't apply, and so I restored the page. Sorry for any of your time wasted by this. INeverCry 22:35, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I wanted to bring it up again it in case something like this might be preventable next time. I was thinking it would be a shame if this happened to a newbie who saw this as a slap in the face and then didn't stick around. That's my main concern now. =) Biosthmors (talk) 01:48, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll make sure to be more careful with these as I go ahead. INeverCry 01:59, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, when I'm on the fence when reviewing a CSD of any type, I will often send it to AFD and let there be a discussion on it. Often, it will either get improved to the point that it clearly is ok, or it won't and the community will take care of it. The extra week is of little consequence, in the larger scheme of things. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 23:00, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's definitely what I'll be doing in the future. With CSDs on Commons, we have two buttons under the CSD tag, one says "convert to DR" and the other says "remove this tag"; there's also a little garbage can under the tag that leads to the delete page. I'm missing those a bit... my friend Rillke keeps us all so spoiled over there with his wonderful gadgets! But then we have Twinkle here, so I guess things even out a bit. INeverCry 23:27, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also strongly suggest adding
importScript('User:NuclearWarfare/Mark-blocked script.js');
to your common.js. It is a script that will automatically put a strike out in blocked user's names on all pages (assuming it is a [[User:name]] link.) If you mouse over, it will tell you when, who did it, and how long. Very useful. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 23:45, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, importScript('User:MastCell/user-rights.js');
is another to add. When you go to their page (talk or user) then under their name it will tell all their rights, how many total edits, how long they have been here, etc. Another super useful script. There are more, but those are the universal ones for admin or power users. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 23:52, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dennis. I've added both. INeverCry 00:06, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you both! Biosthmors (talk) 00:14, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to Create a Mind Again

[edit]

You assessed my article How to Create a Mind as Start a few weeks ago. I took your advice and made some improvements: new lead, new background section, doubled the content section and added subsections, and split analysis out from reception. I wanted to find some new reviews or deeper analysis, but couldn't yet. Can you assess it again? Or is it better to find someone new, and how is the best way to do that? Thanks for your help, that advice was really spot on, because each thing I fixed clearly improved things a lot. Silas Ropac (talk) 05:37, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's quite an improvement. I've moved it up to C-class. My immediate issue is with the lead. In its current form it does more to introduce the author than to give a summary of the article's contents as it should. I would suggest taking a look at Category:GA-Class Book articles to get an idea of what you're shooting for. You can also look thru those articles and possibly find some editors to consult with about How to Create a Mind. INeverCry 20:19, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. Yeah I struggled with the lead, I basically worked on making it the right length without really knowing what it should say exactly. Yeah I will check out the GA articles and maybe talk to some others. I'm going to work on bringing some of his other books up to C first though. Silas Ropac (talk) 21:22, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In regard to the C-class rating, I wouldn't take that too seriously. Others might rate the article B-class, and it looks very impressive. INeverCry 22:48, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well thanks. I don't take the exact letter too seriously. But I do think the assessment system does work, as a new editor it's helpful. The really good articles seem light years better, but if you break it down into stages it becomes more tractable. Silas Ropac (talk) 00:51, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't resist. I looked at some of those GA book articles and rewrote the lead. I think it is much better. Before I was really trying to setup the article, but here I just plain tell the whole story in miniature: How to Create a Mind. Silas Ropac (talk) 00:47, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's quite a bit better. I've moved the article up to B-class. If you intend on getting this to GA, you might want to put it up for Wikipedia:Peer review. INeverCry 01:52, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for taking the time. For GA, from what I saw of others, I think they might have issue with too much primary-sourced summary, and too simple of analysis and reception (A said B while C said D). So not quick-fixes. I think I will try to the peer review, can't hurt. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Silas Ropac (talkcontribs) 11:32, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could you integrate this image to English Wikipedia? Thank you in advance. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 13:35, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to instead check with a German-speaking admin or an admin at de.wiki about transferring it to Commons. It looks like the copyright is the same as this image, File:Elon Lindenstrauss MFO.jpg, which is on Commons and used in numerous articles. INeverCry 20:08, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RM backlog

[edit]

As a new admin, I hope that I can encourage you to take a stab at closing a dozen of the RM backlog requests. The way WP:RM is set up, requests can be closed at any time, but are not intended to remain open for longer than seven days, meaning that all should be closed before they reach the WP:RM#Backlog. In other words, after the backlog is cleared out, standard procedure should be to close all of the requests just before they reach the backlog. In some cases, though, this means relisting, which also should be done before reaching the backlog. Closing instructions are at WP:RMCI. If each new admin closes a few requests the backlog can be cleared. Apteva (talk) 04:43, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Robot Combat League Deletion

[edit]

Hello,

You recently deleted an article about the US Television series Robot Combat League (SyFy Channel). It says it was deleted because of Article A7. I'm not sure if the article was completed, but apparently there was a lack of significance expressed. I thought a TV show on a major network was significant enough, but it also marks the first use of oversized, bipedal, humanoid robots being controlled with an exoskeleton. This is a significant advancement in robot technologies. I'm curious what your reasoning was, and if there is a way to revive the page and edit it to explain its importance. Please let me know what we can do to get this article active again.

The old link is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Combat_League

If you prefer, you can email me at madrobotanist@gmail.com. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Madrobotanist (talkcontribs) 21:08, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, INeverCry. There's been a bit of an ongoing issue with the image at Donna Pescow. Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A7. INeverCry 19:33, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
i disagree because there are a lot of webradio's pages on wikipedia (radioeco.it ecc, ecc). Radio Catt is the official radio of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and there are a lot of journal discussing it.--Jenniferstaff (talk) 19:39, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is an article of campus radio (in particular Radio Catt) in Italy by Corriere della sera. Radio Catt is one of the few campus radio in italy...so i think the deletetion (a7) is not corrected. i hope you restore the page, bye.--Jenniferstaff (talk) 19:46, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest either adding some details about the radio station to Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, or re-doing the article with more reliable references showing the notability of the station. INeverCry 19:56, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
ok, can you restore the page?...so i don't restart from the beginning...--Jenniferstaff (talk) 20:16, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

and now?--Jenniferstaff (talk) 22:02, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

a note from a visitor Actually, not "all the college radio have a page on wiki" - I have deleted quite a few. Being a radio station of any sort is not automatically notable, and student-run organisations have to show notability as much as any other. And prove it with WP:RS reliable independent sources. (If I had a parrot, it would probably say that...) Peridon (talk) 22:20, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
the sources are completely independent (one of them is Corriere della Sera, the most important journal in Italy)...only one is by radiocatt.com. --Jenniferstaff (talk) 22:39, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The ThinkGlobal trade leads platform [1] for importers and exporters was created by ThinkGlobal Inc. In addition to producing the trade leads portal, ThinkGlobal publishes Commercial News USA[2] , the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Commercial News USAis distributed in print and online to more than 250,000 international buyers worldwide.

The ThinkGlobal trade portal includes sections for buyers, sellers and service providers. It also features an online auditorium with on demand and streaming video. A virtual trade show, enabling buyers and sellers to interact online, is also part of the platform.

[edit]

Today I submitted an article and you deleted it based on copyright infringement http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Oxfam_America_Hunger_Banquet&action=edit&redlink=1

I tried to contest the nomination but I think was too late. I am in fact the owner of the copyright. I work for Oxfam America and my registered email address with wikipedia is a @oxfamamerica.org email address. If you'd like, I can give you the web editors email for further verification. Would that make this article acceptable?

Talk:Depressive anxiety

[edit]

Talk:Depressive anxiety page was created a couple of days ago, then blanked by the author, then deleted. Author was a student who considered expanding the article. She listed her course title and #, college and prof. Later she apparently decided not to proceed with her project, and blanked that talk page. After, being blank, it got deleted.

Would like to have prof's info again [course title, college at least] if at all possible? Subsequent to the blanking/deletion I created Talk:Depressive anxiety again anew. I added some extensive notes potentially very helpful to anyone wanting to expand the article, including very extensive wikipedia cross referencing.

Wanted to ping that prof to see if she (or another of her students) might like to continue and/or contribute... Any chance you can recover the prof's info for me? Rick (talk) 18:17, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While I haven't worked on the article since I created it (just haven't got around to it), the article was not meant to be a "hoax". The internal divisions within the GOP since the last election are legitimate and also can easily be backed up by WP:RS. THis at least should have went to WP:AfD. That would have at least given me time to improve the article. Casprings (talk) 02:50, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The entire content of the page was two sentences: the first is a vague statement of a Republican civil war, while the second is a plain reference to the Conservative Victory Project. The title itself doesn't show up in a google search, and so could be considered WP:OR. I don't think an AFD would've been appropriate.

I agree with you of course that the divisions in the GOP are legit, etc, but perhaps it would be better to address this in an existing article like Factions in the Republican Party (United States). INeverCry 04:16, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CRPGAddict deletion

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Proposed page on "Open source energy system models" deleted with an odd reason

[edit]

Hi

I recently drafted a new wikipedia page and submitted it for approval here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Open_source_energy_system_models

I followed the various steps for creating a new article with particular care. In my view, the page was notable, reliable, neutral, and up to standard. Furthermore, two knowledgeable colleagues (both energy system modelers) commented favorably on it.

The deletion reason was G8: Talk page of a deleted page. But this is how the process works: the draft page is placed in the Talk tab for review. If successful, the page is moved to the Article tab and put in the wikipedia namespace. Otherwise, the originator is provided with the specific reasons for its failure.

Yet it seems my draft has been caught up in a catch 22 : no accompanying article and therefore a candidate for instant deletion.

Could you therefore please reinstate my draft page and rerun the review process. If it is not up to scratch, then I would like to know why and would like to have the opportunity to improve it and resubmit it. Surely, that is fair and reasonable?

For your reference, the same material also currently resides here in my personal sandbox.

Thanks for your time.

[edit]

about what is going on. I saw a listing on my watch list announcing the proposed speedy deletion of an image at 20:54 today. The image was File:ChicagoIndian.jpg . There was, I discovered a "Go here to discuss it" option. I went there, While I was composing a message the image was deleted. That was something like an hour after the first posting. That is speedy.

I had written:

This page should not be speedily deleted because... first of all, there is no reason to believe that the sculpture was ever copyrighted. It is also pre- 1978 (I think this is the date) meaning that it not only needed to be copyrighted in 1928 (or so) but that the copyright needed to be renewed. Typically when sculpture is copyrighted it is marked as such on the work. The standard reference place for this sort of thing is the Smithsonian Archives and there is no mention of it here. [2] . The work was also created and cast in what was Yugoslavia, so probably should not fall under the USA copyright laws anyway. So I say don't delete, speedily or otherwise. Also, the picture has been on wikipedia for how many years with no problem, now suddenly it is a rush? And for all you folks watching, I have on occasion be advised to just discuss the issue and not the editor creating it, so that's what I'll do. I will point out that the process for speedily deleting (see above) says "Contact the photographer or uploader on their user page" (or something close to that).

What is going on here? Carptrash (talk) 21:51, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Thanks for your work deleting. I understand that a lot of crap must come in about non-notable people, etc, and it must be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

However, I think you incorrectly deleted two articles about notable individuals, and their notability was clearly documented in the article (including the references). These are:

Could you do everyone a favour and please undelete these and please be more careful in the future? I can understand that mistakes are made, but it's not very good when you spend your evening researching people and then poof it all goes because Barney the barney barney (talk) 22:57, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't delete these out of not being careful, and I don't see the deletions as a mistake. Neither of these indicates why the subjects might be notable. This doesn't mean they aren't notable, it just means you didn't do enough to show that they're notable. This is why another user tagged them for speedy deletion, and I deleted them. I've restored them, but you need to do some more work on them to prevent them from being tagged for deletion again. INeverCry 00:04, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, INeverCry; perhaps we can both learn from this? Hello there

You recently deleted a page about Philip Hedley - it took a long time to research the page and it was my second submission. I would really appreciate the opportunity to be told what mistakes I made and then correct the mistakes. I am new to editing and it is very discouraging almost verging on bullying to be treated this way. i would hope that you guys would want to support newbies into being the best they can be rather than intimidating with the power to 'delete as you will' without so much as a by your leave.

Please can you re-instate and let me know what I did wrong and heaven forbid give me a little help and support to do it right. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by PHPAeditor (talkcontribs) 15:26, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission was deleted as a copyright violation of http://philiphedley.com/, which it follows word for word in many places. In cases of copyright violation the submission has to be deleted quickly. We want to be supportive of new users, but we have an obligation to protect copyright holders and Wikipedia from infringement. You can't use plagiarised content in submissions/articles here. The content of the deleted AFC can't be restored. You have to write submissions in your own words in a way that avoids copyright infringement and even close paraphrasing. Question (re: Planview)

[edit]

Hi; recently, you deleted Planview under A7—I initially also tagged it for speedy deletion (A7 as well) before realizing it was actually about a piece of software, to which A7 doesn't apply. I then removed the tag...then another user readded it and you deleted. It's rather a moot point, but the reason I bring it up is because the issue was brought up at my talk page. Thoughts? —Theopolisme (talk) 01:32, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think I probably mistook this for a company article, especially seeing the word "enterprise". INeverCry 02:18, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted images

Hi. For the following three images, you'll need to re-delete the file description page and then delete the entries from MediaWiki:Bad image list. You deleted these three file description pages already (at my request as non-controversial housekeeping), but they were all re-created by a silly bot (Cyberbot I).

If you could also remove the extra "]" after the "File:Prostatastimulation anal.jpg" entry at MediaWiki:Bad image list, that would be great.

Thank you. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 04:43, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dhosi Hill

[edit]

Hi ! I find some deletions on the page amounting to about 5000 bytes. The picture of Floods and Saptrishis carried out by a fish boat ia also removed. The picture depicts how Manu and his contemporary seers were saved in great floods and description is contained in Manusmriti itself. Floods in the region of Dhosi Hill are no myth or part of mythology. The precise routes of two rivers Saraswati and Drishadwati, as mentioned in Manusmriti, are now known from satellite images and old palaeochannels are analysed for finding facts as per Manusmriti. Excavations, palaeobotanical studies of pollens of cereals on river banks confirm habitations and agricultural operations in the area about 8500 years ago, and geo morphological studies of rived beds confirm the rivers as Saraswati, a Himalayan river and Drishadwati coming from Aravalies as mentioned in Manusmriti. So floods and related happenings are scientific facts and should be put on the page. I intend to put all the scientific sources, like sattelite images of old palaeochannels and others on this page too like on Manusmriti. I would also suggest that you ask for advice from someone more experienced in these topics, such as User:Titodutta. INeverCry 17:09, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Resubmission of John K. Castle bio

[edit]

Re: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/John K. Castle

You deleted this entry yesterday after the copyright robot deemed the text to be too similar to Castle's authorized bio, which is not copyrighted. I have rewritten the bio accordingly and am submitting it again. Jlh070945 14:42, 21 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jlh070945 (talkcontribs)

The Castle website states copyright © 2013 - johnkcastle.com at site bottom. Make sure you write about him in your own words, based on sources, and don't get too close to source wording. INeverCry 17:15, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the speedily deletion of this page happened so fast, I didn't' get a chance to comment on it.

The new version that I created had the distinction of pointing out that she is now considered as one of the few Adult industry performers that has achieved crossover status into mainstream (non-Adult) work. That's what I was basing my WP:Notability on. If you could provide me access to the previous version of the article, I would appreciate it and make every effort to create an article that meets WP Notability and BLP guidelines. Thank you, --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 18:54, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see much of a change from the latest incarnation of this article to the earlier one that was deleted via AFD. The new one uses as references iafd.com and twitter, which isn't a sufficient foundation for the crossover status/notability claim. I'm not going to provide any copies of either deleted version, but you could ask the closer of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Janet Mason what he thinks about it. INeverCry 19:45, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Being that it was deleted and that I'm not an Admin, I couldn't see any change either from previous versions... :) Thank you for the recommendation of who to inquire with, its appreciated.
By the way, I referenced Twitter because the subject person posted several Tweets about why she was giving up her mainstream alias and just going by her Adult stage name. There are plenty of references to her mainstream work, but I never got the chance the cite them. I honestly thought I'd have more time to expand the article and add references. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 19:55, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You'd probably be better off working something up in a sandbox, otherwise G4 will usually get the article deleted pretty quickly. INeverCry 20:19, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent advice, but without copies of the previous versions, it makes creation of the article risky in terms of the effort put out and its likelihood of staying up. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 21:33, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at the AFD. If your new work addresses the reasons put up for deletion there, you're ok. INeverCry 22:40, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did, it wasn't terribly clear. Some bashed one of the sources, Adult Video News magazine, which just celebrated its 30th year. How its not a good source confounds me, I intend to use it in any way that I can. As for notability, one person said she hadn't won enough awards and another actually bashed the WP guidelines for notability of pornographic actors and actresses. If that's the basis of the challenge, I'm at a loss as to why the article keeps getting deleted. This person has been nominated several times and won awards, is notable in a particular genre, AND as of my latest attempt has been featured in mainstream media. User:Sandstein gave me access, hopefully he thinks its a salvageable article. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 01:09, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Salt

[edit]

Hello. I see you deleted The spectacular 5. Would it be possible to salt The spectacular 5 and The Spectacular 5 for 6 months or at time you feel appropriate? See User talk:Lukin0726 for a brief history of the article's recreation over the last couple of days. Mkdwtalk 20:05, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

 Salted both pages for 6 months. INeverCry 20:16, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're a rockstar. Thanks! Mkdwtalk 20:25, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
