A couple of things

[edit]

In your article creation you don't seem to use more than a short sentence in the lede, which should precis the whole article as a stand alone piece of prose. So by way of constructive criticism you might like to review WP:LEDE. I noticed you left some obvious spelling mistakes, now corrected, in Triumph Tiger Daytona and Jules De Martino which might have been noticed in a quick proofread. Otherwise you are definitely being a productive editor especially for the Motorcycling WikiProject. Keep up the good work. ww2censor (talk) 14:07, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thanks - I've been working towards this years target of 50 bike related DYK's and perhaps need to slow down a bit as it is only March... (and not watch TV at the same time) - but on the plus side I've noticed a lot of interest in bike articles once they get to DYK. Cheers Thruxton (talk) 15:50, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please check where you are getting your sources from. I've just removed three sources from the Jules De Martino page because they are either not reliable or the site mirrors Wikipedia. I had to do this before with the sources you originally provided on both that page and the Katie White one. Please be more careful and check your sources before adding them. ~~ [ジャム][t - c] 18:57, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks I've just been looking at Wikipedia:MIRROR and understand it a bit more now - is there an easy way to tell if I am looking at a Mirror site? Sometimes it is obvious - but not always Thruxton (talk) 07:00, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, if it looks like The Ting Tings article, it is more than likely a mirror. Many of the sources you provided actually said they uses Wikipedia as the source, although they don't always. ~~ [ジャム][t - c] 20:06, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate categories

[edit]

I don't think it's necessary to add all the Italian motorcycles to Category:Italian motorcycles. If a particular article is already a member of a category included in Italian motorcycles. E.g. the Ducati bikes are already in Category:Ducati motorcycles, which is included in Italian motorcycles. See WP:SUBCAT for more info. Brianhe (talk) 19:15, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've just read the guidance perhaps you can help? We want to sort through all the Italian motorcycle stubs but if they are in a subcategory it's harder to see how many there are, how far you've got and what's missing. Any thoughts? Thruxton (talk) 19:25, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't it make sense to try to include articles in one of the Italian manufacturers subcategories, not in Category:Motorcycles or Category:Italian motorcycles? The appropriate subcategories are Category:Aprilia motorcycles, Category:Benelli motorcycles, Category:Cagiva motorcycles, Category:Ducati motorcycles, Category:MV Agusta motorcycles, Category:Moto Guzzi motorcycles. There may be some oddballs that don't have enough examples to create a category (there should be 3 at a minimum for a new cat). Brianhe (talk) 19:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also just created Category:Bimota motorcycles which has only two entries so far. Brianhe (talk) 20:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I've been giving this some thought and appreciate your advice. Ideally I would like to see what we have at a glance and not have to go through each subcategory looking for gaps and stubs. I understand the guidance on duplicate categories, so would it be better if I remove the subcategories from Category:Italian motorcycles (I added them in the first place) so that they aren't duplicated? Phil Vincent

[edit]

Hello there, would you have any objections to me adding to and editing your article about my father? I feel I can fill some gaps and I will see if I have a photograph I can put on the page. I know Wikipedia is open source but I don't like doing too much without the blessing of the creator of the page.

Also if you see contributions from SheffieldHoop he is my son and Philip Vincent's Grandson. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deevincentday (talkcontribs) 02:17, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great to work with you to get this to Good Article status. I've only managed one other GA (Flat Holm and that was easier as I managed the Island) but I've never had enough reliable information to finish a Biography (although I've started a good many) One of the reasons I've been working so hard on the British bike pages is I feel it is so important to make sure an accurate history is available to future generations. If you need nay help with refs etc let me know. Thanks Thruxton (talk) 11:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Supermarine Aircraft, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Supermarine Aircraft. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. hamiltonstone (talk) 04:00, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking that you were not put off by this interlude, plenty of support in the aircraft project if you ever need it. Cheers Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 17:59, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all - and I appreciate the support. I was 'inspired' by your article on the kit and plan to get in touch with Mike O¹Sullivan. I've only ever got one article to GA so am sure we can sort the missing refs eg Memorials and Popular culture for Supermarine Spitfire? Cheers Thruxton (talk) 06:56, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good, I've always wanted to build one of these as it's my basic trade (airframe metal bashing and rivetting etc) but they are terribly expensive. I've read build blogs where they have come across problems, whether that is the builder or the kit's fault I don't know. I am worried that the GA reviewer will note that the article is not stable yet, we'll see. Cheers Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 10:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
