From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lwck' /⁠rōzag⁠/), 𐫡𐫇𐫝𐫃 (rwcg /⁠rōzag⁠/, “fast, fasting”), from Proto-Iranian *ráwčakah (“fasting”). Equivalent to روز (ruz, “day”) +‎ ـه (-e). Cognate with Baluchi روچگ (rōčag) and Southern Kurdish ڕووژە (rûje).
