The fabric was invented in 1918, and named after J. P. Bemberg, the German developer.

Bemberg (plural Bembergs)

  1. The trade name for a type of rayon yarn. Fabrics made from this yarn are frequently used for presentation flags, and for lining suits and coats. Bemberg silk is a less costly, and versatile, substitute for natural silk.
