[edit]According to del Rosario (1969), the word is from Old Tagalog; but it is not found in Fr. San Buena Ventura's Vocabulario de lengua tagala (1613). Compare Ilocano ummong (“to gather”) and Ibaloi olnong (“gathering in one place; meetings to decide on changes to the law”).
