가일어
가일어(Gayle language)는 남아공의 성소수자들이 쓰는 언어이다. 이는 남아프리카 도시 공동체의 영어 및 아프리칸스어를 사용하는 동성애 남성이 주로 사용하는 영어 및 아프리칸스어 기반 게이 은어 또는 속어이며 일부 어휘 항목이 포함된 영국의 폴라리와 일부 측면에서 유사하다.
가일어는 원래 1950년대 케이프 컬러드(Cape Colored) 커뮤니티의 드래그 (옷) 문화에서 moffietaal(아프리칸스어: 문자 그대로 "동성애 언어")로 나타났다. 이는 1960년대 백인 동성애 집단에 스며들어 주류 백인 게이 문화의 일부가 되었다.
가일어는 다양한 사회에서 그룹 내 선호를 보장하기 위해 대부분의 반언어가 개발되는 것과 동일한 이유로 발생했다. 그러나 그것은 또한 대화를 "캠핑"하고 언어적 재치와 재담이 매우 중요하게 여겨지는 하위 문화에 오락을 제공하는 것과 같은 다른 기능도 수행했다.
