    Delhi-NCR rain: Heavy rains in the capital city, roads flooded, Delhi metro updates

    Synopsis

    Before the monsoon declaration, Delhi-NCR faced heavy rain. The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 154 mm of rain. A roof collapse at Terminal 1 led to a temperature drop to 35.4 °C, disrupting flight departures.

    Heavy rain lashes Delhi-NCR, waterlogging in many areas; visuals from in and around the national capital
    Early on Friday, there was heavy rain in a few areas of Delhi-NCR, ahead of the monsoon's formal arrival. The ceiling of Delhi Airport Terminal 1 collapsed this morning due to heavy downpours.

    Metro service update:
    Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 Metro station's entry and exit will be closed due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, until further notice, the Aerocity Metro station to Terminal 1-IGI Airport shuttle service has been discontinued. All other lines will continue to provide regular services.


    Delhi has seen a lot of rain since last night, leading some to question if the monsoon has made it to the nation's capital. The monsoon will reach the nation's capital in two to three days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department's announcement on Thursday. The official declaration of the monsoon's arrival in Delhi has not yet been made.


    The main weather station in the city, Safdarjung Observatory, reported 154 mm of rain between yesterday and this morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    Rain earlier on Thursday caused Delhi's temperature to drop to 35.4 °C. Delhi has been suffering greatly from the intense heat, with nine heatwave days in June so far this year compared to none in 2023 or 2022.

    Delhi Airport news:
    A section of the canopy at the former departure plaza at Delhi Airport's terminal 1 fell this morning, resulting in one fatality and at least eight injuries. There was a temporary suspension of flight departures at Delhi airport's Terminal 1 following the collapse of its roof.
