Want Mihir to get death: Victim's kin
Pradeep Nakhwa
MUMBAI: Pradeep Nakhwa, husband of Kaveri Nakhwa who was dragged 1.5 km and killed in the BMW hit-and-run accident in Worli, said on Tuesday, "I told him (the man at the wheel, Mihir Shah) to stop, yet he didn't stop, he ran away. She (Kaveri) must have been in so much pain. Everyone knows this but no one is doing anything. There is no one for the poor."
Speaking to agencies and news channels, Amruta Nakhwa, daughter of the victim, broke down and said, "My mother should get justice.
I want him (Mihir Shah) to get the death penalty. She (victim) was in a lot of pain, I saw her with my own eyes, in the hospital." She said the case was not that of an accident but was murder.
The victim's husband said, "He (Mihir Shah) was arrested three days after the incident. Why was he hiding? If he didn't do anything wrong, if he didn't consume alcohol or drugs, why did he run away? He abandoned the vehicle after the crash, broke the number plate and was hiding. Why? He will not have any trace of alcohol in his blood after three days."
He added, "We are poor. Who is there to support us or get us justice? Today, he (Mihir Shah) will be sent to jail. Tomorrow he will be produced in court and then he will be out on bail. He will be released and then this case will drag on. Where will we get the money (to fight the case)? How will we hire a lawyer? Who is there for us? Politicians do not care for us. He (accused) is son of a Shiv Sena functionary. He has money. We don't have anything."
Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena functionary, was arrested in the case and was released on bail.
Nakhwa asked why no politician had made any inquiries with them. "Has Devendra Fadnavis visited us? Has Eknath Shinde come to our home to know what happened? Has Ajit Pawar come? They only care for the chair. Power has blinded all of them," he alleged.
CM Shinde said on Monday that no one, "rich, influential or the offspring of bureaucrats or ministers," will be spared.
