Thank you for reading my comments. I'm the outsider on this, just trying to help with the copy edit. But, as I was reading the article I was struck by the sense that "illegal aliens" destroyed my community, was the article message. I would suggest that someone steps back a bit and asks "what is my intent for this article?" If the intent is to talk about the community and where it is today, great, someone may want to come visit or not. Generally, when I read an article about a location it is just about the location, this one seems to me, leans towards the community is destroyed by and outside invasion and greedy builder. That may be true but it is not objective in tone.

As I have been editing, I have attempted to soften some areas that seemed excessively xenophobic and attempted to just present facts as supported in the article. If you look in the edit fields you will find several sentences that I have commented out, pending substantiation form your community. Generally they are very strongly worded or not supported by the immediate citations.

I grew up in Houston (Fondren, Sharpstown, Alief areas) and like the idea of sharing these community histories, even the dark side. I also believe that blaming others is not the same as reporting facts. I hope that you are happy with the copy edits to this point and hope to finish it soon. Best luck on your nomination for the next level of certification. Bullock 00:06, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good catch on the "it". I've lived my entire life in the states, so I'm aware that was an error on my part. I'm a graduate student and consider my grasp of our language to be fairly adequate. Late night edits, when I'm taking a break from my thesis, might not be a good idea after all.
It's your article, I was just trying to help you along. I'll finish the copy edit and you can remove all the comments. Once again, not intended as an attack. I was sharing my perception. Maybe with my 24 years of military service, I'm just more sensitive to comments that if not clearly substantiated can create discord. Sincerely Bullock 00:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've left a couple of comments on the article page. Nothing I've not already mentioned here. Best of luck with the article nomination. Bullock 01:09, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've completed the copy edit. Hope that you find it readable. Please check for any minor errors that I may have overlooked. I have withdrawn the POV as my perspective is not shared. Best of luck on your submission. Very Respectfully Bullock 06:19, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Great work on the article! One minor thing though, on the reference for the Dynamo stadium, wasn't the land offered to the Franchise since Midway (the owner of the land) is private property? I've read the reference noted and some others, and that is how I read it. But then again, it IS 3am.--Hourick (talk) 08:00, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Gare des Invalides

Hi,

Actually it's a little complicated. The current "aérogare des Invalides" used to be the "gare des Invalides" (train station). In 1948, another train station, the current "gare des Invalides" has been built under the ground to replace the old one, and Air France turned the "old" gare into an aérogare (airport terminal), from which passengers departing from Paris-Orly could take coaches to Orly (with all the check-in process being made at the aérogare des Invalides). Today, the building still belongs to Air France (ticket office + employees offices), and is still called "aérogare des Invalides", even though no more passengers are checked-in there.

Therefore, I don't think creating a new category on Commons is necessary, since the two buildings are both the gare des Invalides somehow.

Well, there are tons of references for Watson, just a matter of figuring out what to put in and such. User:Hourick/Betsy Watson If anything, I'm having problems with the infoboxes, particularly if they go onto another career or move onto other cities. --Hourick (talk) 21:41, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
My main issue seems to be that as I find more and more info, it's finding and expanding an appropriate one. In some cases, it doesn't seem to be a standardized one, or a way to easily add on to it. At least, I haven't figured that part out yet. --Hourick (talk) 21:53, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Excellent work on the Bellaire BLVD article, I was wondering if perhaps an edit of the template to include a street category would be in order or needed. I don't know what other roads that may need their own article (Main St. or Fannin, maybe) but I'd thought put in my .02 there. Cheers! --Hourick (talk) 07:46, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I have a photo of the post office... actually I have pics of several of the POs in Galveston County. I'll dig them up and add them. FYI, it is now against homeland security rules to photograph a post office while on post office property. It is also "strongly discouraged" to photograph a post office from off-property as well. At least thats what I've been told several times by different postmasters and a homeland security agent, while trying to take pics. The only way I got a photo of the Webster APC machine was by taking it at night when the PO was closed. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 01:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not worried about taking photos or running into HLS, I was just giving you a heads up since I've noticed you've taken several pics of POs... I think the whole situation is stupid and smacks of paranoia -- for instance, why would a "terrorist" even want to target the Santa Fe, TX post office, ya know?? If I were homeland security I'd be more concerned about the klan rallies in SF, than some guy taking a pic of the local post office. Anyhow, whenever I've been confronted I just smile, say "i see", and then wait until they're gone and snap my photos :-) --nsaum75¡שיחת! 01:18, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Advice about 75.2.209.226?

Hi, I am looking for some advice and I thought maybe you, as an admin, could help me. There's an editor, 75.2.209.226, who has been making a lot more edits than most anonymous IPs do, and some fairly controversial ones. Their normal M/O seems to be to delete first and ask questions later, including numerous cases that I would've thought better handled with a {{fact}} or an {{or}} tag. When I tried to suggest this on the user's talk page, I got a very hostile response on my user talk, and the comment I'd made was immediately blanked off the user's talk page.

I couldn't help noticing the user has made a long-standing habit of immediately removing anything remotely critical from their user talk, including a large number of warnings, which I thought was taboo. So, I just wanted to ask if you had any advice for me. I'm not actively engaged in an edit wars currently with this person, and they're making a lot of constructive changes too, I just think they're peeling away a lot of good content that, yes, is currently unsourced, but could've been rescued if they'd been willing to use the normal collaborative methods that Wikipedia relies upon. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.

More Air India Express Flight 812

  1. I have made a few more comments on the articles talk page re Wikipedia being 'biased'.
  2. I didn't realise you were an admin! So, Chris.duzzo (Talk) has made some rather odd edits to the Flight 812 artilce. It is the only editing (6 edits) they have done under that Username. The edits arent exactly vandalism but rather odd, and heading to disruptive. See this DIFF for example. At 6:03 UTC today they made major changes, or reverted to a much earlier version (I couldn't tell) with no apparent reason, concensus or even an edit summary, see DIFF. I reverted th edit. I have asked another Admin about it, and also left Admin Mjroots a message. Duzzo has a lvl 1 'joke' warning from User:Kslotte, a prior vandal lvl 1 from me and I gave a vandal level 2 for the 6:03 edit. Can you take a look, or should we wait for them to do something again ? --220.101.28.25 (talk) 15:00, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Contact Us

Howdy, just a clarification on my statement about the contact us website. I am not saying that the website is unreliable, I was removing them because they were not backing up the reference listed. If the article says that a company's address is blah blah, and a contact us site is listed as a reference and has the address as blah blah, then yes, that is fine with me. But some of the statements in the article were referencing the contact us page, and there was nothing there to substantiate the statement. My point is that a referenced site should provide information that directly substantiates an editors statements in the article. If a referenced page doesn't do that, it's an invalid reference, and I am calling on those editors to go find a valid reference or remove the statements. Akuvar (talk) 00:44, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Here is an example. Currently, there is a statement on the main page that reads "The chain has its headquarters in unincorporated Fulton County, Georgia" and the "contact us" webpage is cited as a reference to this information. Well, go to the contact us webpage and it says nothing about "unincorporated Fulton County." It says Atlanta. So this statement in the article doesn't have a valid reference. If the editor wanted to change the article to read "The chain has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia" then this would be a perfectly fine reference. Akuvar (talk) 00:52, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I read your reasoning on my Talk page. Thanks for the explanation. I'm almost sold on your explanation. I want to play devil's advocate here for a second - why are people taking the address off the contact us page and inserting it into a map program to find out where a building is? Doesn't this constitute original research? I mean, if you say you can do all that with a map program, isn't the map program the citeable reference for the article? If a "contact us" webpage lists Atlanta, GA as the corporate headquarters, why aren't we taking that at face value? Why are we performing these "original research" steps of finding out where the building physically sits? I thought that a reference was something you could click on and see, why yes, here is an (optimally) an independent 3rd party cite that backs up what the editor stated in the article. I don't think wiki readers are supposed to click on a link that says Atlanta, GA and then have to perform the extra steps of inserting the address into a map program to see where the building sits. See my problem with it? Akuvar (talk) 23:15, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I guess my problem still lies with what is seen on the "contact us" page of Atlanta, GA, and for some reason we need to make our casual wiki readers that want to verify a statement that has been referenced take any "extra" steps or "put two and two together" at all. The majority of these references to "unincorporated counties" I'm finding on quick serve articles are citing the contact us page with the company's address. I still think it is borderline original research to take these extra steps to find out what county the building sits in. Akuvar (talk) 00:38, 31 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Other wikipedias

Hi WhisperToMe, I'd like to keep the discussions about a given wikipedia in such a wikipedia. It's pointless to discuss about the Spanish Wikipedia here. Conventions in each of them are totally different. You see, I create articles with infoboxes here (see this for example), but I'd never do it that way in the Spanish wikipedia. And see, we control the contents of a wikiproject with lists, see this as an example. With regard to language, I've been explicitly warned when writing in Spanish to another Spaniard, so again, this discussion is pointless. Regards --Ecemaml (talk) 23:02, 16 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit to Miami-Dade County, Florida

You made an edit to Miami-Dade County, Florida yesterday. Unfortunately, you edited a version of the article that had resulted from a botched move, and which had lost all history prior to the move. I have restored the version of the article with the full history, but your edit is not part of it. I temporarily saved the history-less version that you edited at Miami-Dade County, Florida (bad) until the information you added in your edit can be incorporated into the correct version of the article. -- Donald Albury 11:48, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Country listings and categorisations

May I know how should non-independent countries such as Bermuda, Guam, Puerto Rico, Greenland and Hong Kong be listed or categorised? 112.118.163.236 (talk) 18:59, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Hong Kong and the People's Republic are on the same continent.., so as the Channel Islands, Gibraltar and the UK. Could you suggest some examples in which they should fall under the same section, and examples in which they should have separate sections? Let's say, on a list of tunnels, on a list of subways, or on a list of museums? And what about categories? Should a category for buildings in the Faroe Islands or in the Åland Islands be placed right under the buildings by country category, for instance? Is there any official convention or guideline that we can rely upon, especially when dealing with troublemakers? 112.118.163.236 (talk) 19:28, 3 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fallen Officer Article

Good morning, Just wanted to ask you to put in your .02 on a project I'm thinking of undertaking that will involve a list of fallen officers in the Houston Police Department. I had hoped to get some input on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography first, but have fallen on deaf ears. Haven't decided to bring it up to WP: Houston, but I might. I would like input and such to avoid having such a task deleted by some overzealous AFD'er. Thanks.--Hourick (talk) 08:54, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, I found during one of the fallen officer additions I've referenced had an enormous amount of information on individual officers. The Officer Memorial Page [5], the Houston Police Officers Union [www.hpou.org], and a wealth of information in chron.com as well as the other news services. Do you think this would be helpful in this fact? I'd like to bring this to a wider forum to help bring a consensus before doing something that is going to be quite labor intensive. Suggestions? --Hourick (talk) 19:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:MickeyMouseJapan.JPG

A user mentioned your picture File:MickeyMouseJapan.JPG when trying to justify he owned the copyright to a derivative work. Can you please explain your justification for claiming copyright to the image File:MickeyMouseJapan.JPG at Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2010_July_14#File:KoreanWarMemorialSoldiers.JPG? Thanks.--Jorfer (talk) 02:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

There are international agreements to respect other countries copyrights, so the fact that it was taken in Japan does not mean that it is not subject to Disney's copyright. Even though creative attributes mean that a 2D image of a 3D public domain object can be copyrighted, it does not mean that creative properties allow a 2D image of a 3D copyrighted object to be the 2D image taker's copyright, since the more restrictive of the two components takes priority. Trademark doesn't neglect copyright. See Mickey Mouse#Legal issues. Anything with Mickey Mouse on it is copyrighted by Disney; see Commons:Commons:Derivative_works#If I take a photograph of a kid who is holding a stuffed Winnie the Pooh toy, does Disney own the copyright in the photo since they own the Pooh design?. Even though they do not own the copyright to the photo; they have a copyright to the part of it that is a derivative work and that is enough in this case to mean that you do not have a copyright to the entire picture. I am going to nominate the picture for deletion thus, and we will see what consensus is.--Jorfer (talk) 04:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Georgia & WikiProject Greater Albany/Savannah/Valdosta (South Georgia)

Hey WhisperToMe,

You are an admin. Why can't you add this WikiProject page, Wikipedia:WikiProject Greater Albany/Savannah/Valdosta (South Georgia) as a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state). I've tried contacting the creator of the WikiProject Georgia page, an admin as well, about this and haven't received a reply. I've also inquired other admins about adding an education task force to the WikiProject Georgia banner code. I have the code ready it just needs to be added. Whenever the South Georgia WikiProject is added as a task force of the WikiProject Georgia it should also be added as code into the WikiProject Georgia banner. There's also an Atlanta WikiProject that is inactive and could be added as a task force. I've seen this done in the California WikiProject template banner code. A lot of stuff going on that I mentioned, hope it made sense. Tamer_of_Hope talk 22:03, 19 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Be careful ! Of course, the building is old. But the entrance has been revamped, reworked and so on by an architect. And I think that there is (alas) a no-Fop problem.--Tangopaso (talk) 18:22, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Two more

Hi,
I uploaded File:Bd_Haussmann,_17.jpg (Danone HQ) onto Commons (old building). And File:GDF Suez_HQ.jpg onto wikipedia english (recent buildings). Go ahead for the articles of the companies.
About File:Rue_de_la_Boétie,_54-56.jpg, I think that there is a no no-FOP in France problem because of the entranceway. I think that this gate is ugly. But an architect has designed it some years ago (30 ?). I don't know who is he (and I don't want to know). This is why I uploaded the photo onto wikipedia english and not onto Commons. I let you decide, because I am not specialist about that. Is the photo copyrightable, or not because the entrance is only a part of it ? I will not ask deletion of the photo on Commons : there are French skyscrapers more misplaced !--Tangopaso (talk) 15:27, 26 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

While we're at it.....

Please go ahead and take a look at these two articles...

...and try and tell me, what is the difference between the two. In the Los Angeles Portal, The link in the article says "Greater Los Angeles", but simply by clicking on the link, you may notice that you are directed to Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Also, go ahead and click on Greater Los Angeles Area, and try and find a source that defines what it is, or how it is differs from the other. Trust me, when I say, that you may have one of those, WTF moments, just like I did. Los Angeles metropolitan area is better sourced and is what is used by the United States Census.

I nominated Greater Los Angeles Area for deletion, or at least have it merged with Los Angeles metropolitan area. That disscussion is going on at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Greater Los Angeles Area. Any comments for or against would be helpful. Thanks.--Jojhutton (talk) 02:24, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:MickeyMouseJapan.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MickeyMouseJapan.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 02:57, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know we do. What I removed were the names of the cabin crew, as in the stewards and stewardesses. The names of the pilot and co-pilot are still there. WackyWace converse | contribs 17:07, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Barbecue in Texas

Well done on creating the Barbecue in Texas page, as well as the writing and synthesis of the information. Maybe now the information on Texas barbecue won't get bastardized so much as it has when it was part of Regional variations of barbecue and Barbecue in the United States.Mmyers1976 (talk) 17:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Panoramic views

hi there WhisperToMe,

Epeefleche recommended you, I hope you don't mind. We need your help: I took some images of the old Burlington factory[6], however some of the images I uploaded still need to be stitched into panoramic shots. I put in the request in Commons a while ago, unfortunately months later still nothing has happened, I don't know why. I have a number of other panoramic requests on Commons, but we are trying to improve on the article Cordoba House, so this one would be the most pressing. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much. Gryffindor (talk) 22:02, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Romanization for words of English origin

On the MOS:JP talk page, a discussion has been started about including or not including romanizations for words of English origin, such as Fainaru Fantajī in Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー, Fainaru Fantajī) (for the sake of simplicity, I called this case "words of English origin", more information on semantics here).

Over the course of a month, it has become apparent that both the parties proposing to include or not include those romanizations cannot be convinced by the arguments or guidelines brought up by the other side. Therefore, a compromise is trying to be found that will satisfy both parties. One suggestion on a compromise has been given already, but it has not found unanimous agreement, so additional compromises are encouraged to be suggested.

One universally accepted point was to bring more users from the affected projects in to help achieve consensus, and you were one of those selected in the process.

What this invitation is:

  • You should give feedback on the first suggested compromise and are highly encouraged to provide other solutions.

What this invitation is not:

  • This is not a vote on including or excluding such romanizations.
  • This is not a vote on compromises either.

It would be highly appreciated if you came over to the MOS:JP talk page and helped find a solution. Thank you in advance. Prime Blue (talk) 11:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re:

That's fine; just as someone taking Japanese myself, I tend to follow direct transliterations. Alternatively, you can say "Kinrei Matsuyama (spelled Kinrey in TIME magazine). Whatever you think makes more sense, you seem to know the subject better than me. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話す下さい) 19:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... maybe a quick MoS check on names would be in order for me... I'm not sure what to do when someone's name gets mangled in translation from one language to the next. Like I said, do whatever you think makes more sense. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話す下さい) 19:32, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good to me... I didn't scorch the redirect, so it should be quite easy to move back if necessary. My apologies for making this complicated; although on the bright side, we now have a plausible redirect we might not have had if I hadn't been a dunce. Northbrook, Illinois

Just to give you the courtesy of knowing that since you think it is so important to note one block of Forest View Drive in a Wheeling Twp. school district, and put fact tags on everything, I decided that the article is now yours, and you can answer those fact tags. I have also removed any illustrations I added to the article, and if you want illustrations, you can come up to Northbrook and take pictures. However, in the future, you will not be piggybacking on my work. Sorry. Busjack (talk) 19:10, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

"I have also removed any illustrations I added to the article, " No. Your illustrations are staying, and will stay. Once you contribute content to Wikipedia, it stays on there forever. You cannot revoke it.
Sorry fool, you are wrong. I put "author deletes" tags on the illustrations, and removed the license tags. Whoever administers the picture gallery removed the actual illustrations two days ago. So even if you reverted the image tags in the article, they are only red tags now. You can't make me return the illustrations.
I also see from your user page that you are some "computer whiz" just out of high school. I doubt that you went to law school. I did. I can assure you that Wikipedia can't use my images without a license, and they took them down.
All I am saying is that if you are the authority on Northbrook, don't expect any help from me. Certainly, don't expect me to resolve your fact tags nor red links. You get your own picture of St. Giles Church, for instance. Busjack (talk) 19:57, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

No, I see that you tried to reinstate them, even though the pages still lack license tags and have the immediate removal tag on them. If you are going to violate MY LEGAL RIGHTS, I will take legal action against Wikipedia. 20:01, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Roger D. Allen listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Roger D. Allen. Since you had some involvement with the Roger D. Allen redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Tavix |  Talk  04:45, 11 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Photo requests?

Per your post on my talk page, I normally take lots of photos when I travel, here in Alaska but also elsewhere. I am going to Homer, Alaska tomorrow and will probably get some pics there. I use a Sony Cyber-shot for my pics. When applicable to the subject I add them to Wikipedia and release them into the public domain. I could take photos for you, but only if its somewhere I'm going. What did you have in mind? AlaskaMike (talk) 03:17, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK! I'm sure that I can get you some of these. Probably most of them over time. Just dont ask for snaps of Sarah Palin, I dont want to be within a mile of her! Levi? Thats another matter! :) AlaskaMike (talk) 03:41, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've added photos of City Hall and the towns courthouse to the Homer, Alaska page. I can email you a photo of the post office, but I dont think its really notable enough to be posted to the page. Weather is crappy here today so I will have to get more pictures on another trip, but you might consider asking other editors of the Homer page if they have snaps to give you. Could you please review the article Vietnam Airlines, since it hasn't been checked for which status it belongs to. Currently, the article under B-Class status. Sp33dyphil (Talk) (Contributions)(Feed back needed @ Talk page) 05:34, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

In the lead section, if it talks about the past and present of the airline, I thought I bit of the future should be added as well. Sp33dyphil (Talk) (Contributions)(Feed back needed @ Talk page) 07:07, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The airline would have been a sponsor airline, slated to manage all the transportation of the events contestants and paraphernalia, not carry paying passengers. Sp33dyphil (Talk) (Contributions)(Feed back needed @ Talk page) 07:14, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

... and just another "could you please"

Hi, I noticed you did some changes two months ago on both KLM exel and Air Exel, pointing out that these two airlines are identical, and the articles therefore shuold be merged. Do you have any idea which one to keep, which one to merge? Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 16:03, 20 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just a question

How would you go about adding a collapsible table to the article Sing Sing? I have been improving the article and just recentlly made a list of wardens in the infobox but seeing it is so long I need it collapsed I tried with failed results however. Can you help me? I need to know where to put the code in the infobox. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 05:33, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
