Academic grading in Belarus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Belarus, a ten-point grading scale is used since 2002. It is used in primary, secondary and higher education.[1]

Level[2] Grade Label Russian equivalent[1] US equivalent[3]
High 10 Brilliant 5+ A+
9 Excellent 5 A
Good 8 Almost excellent 4+ A-
7 Very good 4 B+
Average 6 Good 4- B
5 Almost good 3+ B-
Satisfactory 4 Satisfactory 3 C+
3 3- C
Low 2 Unsatisfactory 2 F
1 2- F
Poor 0 Terrible 2-- F-

Marks "1" and "2" are considered as "Fail" at school. In higher education "3" is also considered as "Fail". Just like in Ukraine, mark "0" in Belarus can be used (but very rarely). Mark "0" is comparing to "2--" (in Russia) or "F−" in the USA for refusing to do some work or an exam.

Besides grades, a "pass" / "no pass" mark may be used for some subjects. E.g. it's an "Art" subject in Secondary School.[4]
