The Featured Article Medal
By the authority vested in me by myself it gives me great pleasure to present you with this special, very exclusive award created just for we few, we happy few, this band of brothers, who have shed sweat, tears and probably blood, in order to be able to proudly claim "I too have taken an article to Featured status". Gog the Mild (talk) 14:22, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats, and a question

[edit]

Hey, congrats on your promotion. This is a big accomplishment and well deserved.

I wanted to ask if you could look over the current state of my current large project to see if it's on the right track. This is obviously a bit of a tough one to chew and I know it's not your usual topic area. Compare to the structure of the original article to see what I'm trying to go for. I think the current one is not really up to snuff at all. The model article I'm using is this one, as it's a featured one and similar enough.

Basically I'm wondering if you think it is 1) on it's way to doing well, 2) what sections you think are missing (still not done outlining everything)

Thanks, ForksForks (talk) 20:24, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As you stated, this is a subject that is well beyond what I have ever written about, or ever will write about. But for feedback I can provide, I find your current rewrite more informative, clear, and better sourced than the one currently in mainspace. This is a very tough topic to chew, but I think so far you're doing a good job. λ NegativeMP1 20:36, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks and of course if you ever need something read over drop me a ping. ForksForks (talk) 03:04, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations, NegativeMP1! The article you nominated, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats again Negative! Hotline Miami 1 will come around someday, I'm sure of it. I'm on standby if you're willing to assist with Help Wanted. The Night Watch (talk) 17:53, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Minecraft's composer issue

[edit]

Why do you not think that Lena Raine, Kumi Tanioka, and Aaron Cherof are not the lead composers for Minecraft for the page List of video game soundtracks considered the best? Their composition takes a significant chunk in Minecraft's OST by the release of Tricky Trials so I have no idea why you'd remove their names when they did have significant work in the Minecraft. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 08:27, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't list them on List of video game soundtracks considered the best because they are not simply not the lead composers. At the games release, C418 was the only artist featured in the game and remained that way until 2020, and he's still considered the main artist (all but one of the sources used in the list only list C418's work, the other lists both C418 and Raine). Raine has only composed music for the game for about four years, and Tanioka and Cherof have composed music for even less. Additionally, the way they're music has been added to the game is less of "here's all of the music for your game" and more of "here's some extra tracks." Gareth Coker contributed more to the Minecraft soundtrack (at least on console) than all of the extra artists, yet we don't list him for similar reasons. λ NegativeMP1 17:18, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Halo Infinite Article Edits

[edit]

Hello - I hope you are doing well.

I am writing this as a first-time editor. I am confused why, after removing speculative sentences (despite having citations), my purely fact-based points have been removed by you. I am not sure if you are the same person who previously removed the text, but I understand if you did regarding the speculation. That part has been removed.

However, your comment included a note that it is rarely appropriate for Wikipedia articles to include player sentiment. I am linking two of the largest competitors to Halo, Battlefield and Call of Duty, below to demonstrate that this is false.

Call of Duty: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_(2019_video_game).

"Criticism focused on the handling of the campaign's subject matter, including the depiction of the Russian military, as well as balancing issues in the multiplayer."

Battlefield 2042: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2042

"The game received mixed reviews from critics and a more negative reception from players for its technical issues, lack of features, and certain changes to the gameplay. The game failed to meet the sales expectations of Electronic Arts."

Both articles mention criticism and not just praise of the games, with Battlefield 2042 specifically mentioning player sentiment.

I would love to understand why these two articles document player sentiment, but Halo is above such criticism. FactCheckerofFactCheckers (talk) 02:00, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry if my initial revert reason was a bit harsh or confused you. Wikipedia very rarely takes into account fan reception per the user generated content policy, and we go by whatever reliable sources say. So basically, for video games, reliable sources are where we get our reception, and fan reception usually isn't included on its own unless its very, very well documented (ex. a review bomb). Battlefield 2042 is a special case like that, since it was extremely well covered by reliable sources, and MW2019 doesn't fall under that since its purely the opinions of critics. I'm not saying that fan reception for the Halo Infinite article isn't warranted, but to go into that level of detail in the article lead (greater than that of the critics opinions) generally isn't warranted. Note how Battlefield 2042 only goes "the game received mixed reviews from critics and a more negative reception from players" before listing why they didn't like it.
Now, a sub-section of the reception section (similarly to Battlefield 2042) could probably be doable and I'd personally allow it to stay (though I'm not sure what others could think). I did manage to find a few sources that discuss how players reacted to Halo Infinite, such as [1], [2], [3], [4], and [5]. λ NegativeMP1 07:33, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply as well as sharing the links, both of Wiki procedure and Halo articles.
The feedback you shared recommends adding this player sentiment lower on the page; I disagree with this. While I acknowledge Call of Duty does not explicitly list player sentiment in the 'leads' section, Battlefield 2042 does. More specifically, the page includes both critic and player sentiment in the 'leads' section, not below the fold of the page.
Further, while you argue Battlefield is an exception, I am directly challenging your qualifications for deciding which titles are or are not an exception to include player sentiment. Halo and Battlefield 2042 are arguably the largest culprits of negative player backlash in the past few years, with both of us now presenting articles supporting this data.
To your later point, I am aligned with rephrasing the structure of the passage as well as reducing length to match player sentiment in the aforementioned competitors. However, I am not aligned with a) removing player sentiment from the 'leads' section when Battlefield includes it and b) your qualifications to conclude that Battlefield 2042 meets an exception 'threshold' when both of us have now provided articles showcasing strong negative player sentiment and related player statistics.
With regards to reliable sources, I am confused as your shared articles include GameRant, the same reliable source I originally listed when speaking to player sentiment. I have IGN and Polygon articles that also speak to this negative player sentiment.
What are the available next steps? Currently, I see:
- Edit passage in Halo Infinite leads page to align with length and structure of Battlefield 2042's negative player sentiment, with reliable sources cited
- Triage what qualifies as a exception for overwhelmingly negative player sentiment via dispute resolution FactCheckerofFactCheckers (talk) 18:37, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert my edit? (Furina)

[edit]

I added a note on one of her in game features that you quickly removed, and I'm requesting more explaination than what you included in the edit reversion.

Thanks The Eunie-Cycle (talk) 23:03, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HI, I reverted the edit because the detail of Furina being able to walk on water isn't sourced anywhere in the article body , and adding that detail would've failed WP:V. I'm sure that somewhere there's a reliable source that says she can walk on water. I'll check for myself when I can. λ NegativeMP1 23:43, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is this a reliable source? https://www.eurogamer.net/genshin-impact-furina-ascension-talent-materials-best-build-team-weapon-artifact-constellations-9326
I'm not sure exactly what sources count as reliable or not, but this article does mention that Furina's skill lets her walk on water. The Eunie-Cycle (talk) 23:59, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Eurogamer is a reliable source. As for what sources count as reliable or not, a list of reliable sources for video games can be found at WP:VG/S. λ NegativeMP1 00:03, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

American Idiot singles

[edit]

If you decide to pursue GA for any other songs from this album, please reach out. I might review them. Wish you luck on September. mftp dan oops 19:16, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. I plan on pursuing GA for every other song in the album and seeing if there's enough material to make an article for Homecoming, the former of which would allow for the creation of a good topic. On the topic of American Idiot, were you still planning on getting the article to FA? λ NegativeMP1 05:24, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've lost a lot of my editing motivation since making that statement due to career changes I've experienced which have left me with less energy to edit, so I may not make it on time with the statement I made regretfully, but it still remains my plan. On the other hand, my involvement with most if not all the notable songs from American Idiot is minimal enough that I could still qualify to review them. At least I think. mftp dan oops 22:56, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even if you did have any involvement in the singles, I don't see your name in any of the recent changes over the past few years. It should be fine. I appreciate your offer to review the future GANs, the order I plan on taking it is WMUWSE (at GAN right now), the titular track, Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I'm split on whether or not Homecoming is notable, but if it is it'll come in-between the GANs for the titular track and Jesus of Suburbia.
Anyways, I was asking about a possible American Idiot FA in the event there was potential for a featured topic over simply a good topic. λ NegativeMP1 05:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
