Category:Place of birth unknown?

[edit]

The Legislative Manual lists Brooklyn as her birthplace, while her Politicker obituary lists Newark. Does that make her place of birth unknown? I doubt it. The material in the Legislative Manual was submitted by her, while the material in her obituary was based on someone gathering the information. I've seen many cases where someone was born in place A and grew up in place B, where sources will presume that place B is the person's birthplace. This is most likely the case here. I've added a category for People from Brooklyn and commented out the Category:Place of birth unknown. Alansohn (talk) 17:22, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't see your question here beforehand. As neither reference states where the source of the information came from (and the 1986 Legislative Manual one is really only from me constantly doing Google searches and piecing sentences together to get around the Snippet View) you can't assume where each piece came from or who provided the information. And if say she was born in Brooklyn, it doesn't necessarily mean she's from there and warrants the Brooklyn cat addition. I was born in Princeton, NJ (at a hospital which now a pile of PCPs, make your own jokes elsewhere) but I was never from there since I have always lived in East Windsor. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 18:25, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've done the same piecing of snippets from Google Books to build sentences, but I do know that the Fitzgerald's Legislative Manual information comes straight from biographies completed by the legislator. I'd give greater credence to Brooklyn than to Newark as her birthplace. As to her connection to Brooklyn, I feel the same about my birthplace but place of birth has always been considered as a meaningful connection to the place for an individual.
