"mingling of races"?!?

[edit]

"But the fertility of the soil, the warm and genial climate, the MINGLING OF RACES and the absence of opposition, combined to render the Messenians no match for their hardy and warlike neighbours of Sparta." Who is reponsible for this travesty??? Anyway I took it out. thestor 07:12, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can blame the 1911 Britannica for that one. Or an extreme Spartophile. --Akhilleus (talk) 07:31, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose so. Well really, their standards and knowledge are quite different from ours. That was 100 years ago now. I always try to rewrite Britannica whenever I can. It is an expedient here and sometimes it works but usually it can only be considered a temporary measure. After all if people wanted to see Britannica, why would they not go directly to Britannica?Dave (talk) 12:06, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The 2005 population

[edit]

I don't know where that figure comes from and the editor is not saying. I try to look it up on the Internet and all I get are dozens of repetitions of WP. This is no way to run life on the Internet. There ought to be a law. The census is taken every 10 years in the first year of the decade. There is one being taken this year. Meanwhile the government itself is using the 2001 census and most of the other numbers in this article are 2001. Without a source I am putting the number back to 2001. This is only a temporary measure as by early next year everyone will be changing everything to the 2011 numbers. If you really insist on the 2005 number, source, please. And, please don't use the WP copycats.Dave (talk) 10:08, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History Section

[edit]

The history section is clearly NOT up to wikipedian standards, it's an unreadable mass of text quite clearly directly copied from somewhere which is not clearly accredited. Any thoughts on this? 87.210.14.58 (talk) 09:58, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
