I think you will find that Jonathan was NOT adopted.

I don't know what this Greene & Co nonsense is. I would like more information about this because as far as I am concerned this is not a real company and is being fictitiously added to a number of bios

i find it amazing that the richest african is not even black...

Sorry to be ignorant but what is PPE? Far Canal 07:47, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I find it a bit of a stretch to describe Nicky Opppenhiemer as Jewish if he is a member of the Anglican church and his father Harry Oppenheimer converted to Anglicanism. Even as an ethnic classification his Jewish descent is very diluted. Unless we are using Nazi classification. At the very least this would appear to be "original research". I suggest that this classification should be deleted from this article. Gerryfarm (talk) 22:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

donations / charities

[edit]

Could you please write about the family/firm donations to the government and the relation with Nelson Mandela as it's stated in Mandela's article. Thank you. 201.219.76.157 (talk) 00:47, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppenheimer is a supporter of the ANC - he funded CR17 by providing R10-million donation. This is part of who he is and should be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Photonconfusion (talkcontribs) 00:48, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that the case was settled in 2004. The linked source is from 1999. I suggest that the line be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.14.154 (talk) 07:48, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bad logic

[edit]

He clearly is NOT Jewish why is that point not being corrected? Does he prefer people to think he is Jewish? I don't get it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.235.10.125 (talk) 14:13, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nicky seems to subscribe to two denominations at once. Obviously, his logic is confined to his business activities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.148.66.223 (talk) 17:37, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

Dear @Edwardx:,

I work for the office of Mr Nicky Oppenheimer. It has come to our attention that the image associated with this article is one from 2006 when Mr Oppenheimer, as then Chairman of De Beers, visited Russia after an invitation to consider an investment into a Russian diamond mine. As part of that trip they were given a reception by President Putin, where this photo was taken. However, no investment was ever made and no further meetings took place.

Given President Putin’s deplorable actions in Ukraine and the current public sentiment towards him, it is not in our mind reasonable, or in line with Neutral Point of View, for this article to use a photo of Mr Oppenheimer and President Putin as the main image, given the connotations associated with this. I have taken some time to learn more about the Wikimedia Commons, and the office I work for is happy to upload a more appropriate, recent rights-free alternative for use on this page. Otherwise, in the meantime, I hope you can appreciate why I have cropped the existing photo.

Thank you for your understanding. SSG2015 (talk) 09:40, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, SSG2015. I agree that an image including Putin would be inappropriate. Uploading a newer image to Commons would be most welcome, and I look forward to further developments. Edwardx (talk) 11:07, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @SSG2015: and @Edwardx:. Someone has found my email address as a volunteer press rep for Wikimedia, 15+ years ago, bringing the situation to my attention.
Agreed with Edwardx, if Mr. Oppenheimer's office can provide a different image altogether, that would be preferable, SSG2015.
Note, even if Oppenheimer had a business relationship with Putin, or even if he was a oligarch, neither of which is the case here, infoboxes are supposed to only show the subject of the article. -- Zanimum (talk) 09:45, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SSG2015:: Presuming that you do indeed work for Mr. Oppenheimer, further impetus for the organization to make available a different portrait photograph is that the same image (uncropped) was/is used on the Arabic, Persian, Egyptian Arabic, Japanese, Afrikaans, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Uzbek, and Portuguese Wikipedias.
I've updated the Afrikaans, German, French, and Portuguese Wikipedias for now. But updates of all of them would be easier with a better image. I'll revisit the others later — it's very early morning in my time zone — but hopefully you see these messages before then. -- Zanimum (talk) 10:01, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
