BT Redcare [1] is one of the largest suppliers of alarm signalling services for the security and fire industry in the UK. It was established over thirty-five years ago by BT and works with both business and residential markets to keep premises safe.

BT Redcare signalling is fitted by alarm installation companies. Once installed, a signal is sent from a customer’s premises to an alarm receiving centre (ARC). The signal is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – and when necessary, the ARC alerts the customer, nominated persons, police or fire services.

BT Redcare is transitioning towards all-IP from PSTN ahead of the switch-off by the end of 2025, and offers installers a choice of products, each monitored by experts 24/7.

The company’s products include:

Essential IP is a SP2 alarm signalling solution that notifies ARCs of path faults within 60 minutes. It connects via ethernet or wi-fi, so it is ideal for customers in areas with poor mobile coverage and for digi-communicator swap outs.

Essential is a wireless alarm signalling solution which comes with a roaming SIM card that switches between the main UK mobile networks to ensure a good connection.

Essential Extra is a wireless dual-path alarm signalling system with one fixed and one roaming 4G SIM, offering low to medium risk sites more protection for both fire and security.

Advanced has a wired IP connection and dual 4G SIMs – one fixed and one roaming.

Advanced Extra offers the same flexibility and reassurance as Advanced but with faster reporting times. Experts who monitor will know about alarms in seconds and connection faults on primary paths within three minutes.

Ultimate uses a private IP connection on a dedicated BT broadband network, backed up by two 4G SIMs. It has a built-in hub and a battery backup in the alarm panel which means the system won’t fall down – even in a power cut – and monitoring experts will know of any connection problems within 90 seconds.
