Trak/Sandstone COI

[edit]

18:20, 23 June 2016 edit was made by AculverSandstone, and added links/info about Trak. Sandstone is the company commercializing the Trak system. Suspicious name similarity. Isn't this in violation of WP's conflict of interest standard?

contradiction

[edit]

article states that 20million sperm/ml is normal, and then says that 60% or 50% need to be motile, equating to 8million/ml ???

I explained it some more by using some examples. I hope it is clear now - the first parameter is sperm count and the second parameter is motility. Mikael Häggström 10:44, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Query references

[edit]

Reference 3, 4 and 9 are broken links. The information referred to by these links is suspect. The use of a newsletter from a commercial site is not particularly scientific, I would prefer to see only peer-reviewed journal references here. So I deleted the offending material and corrected the glaring error about duration of abstinence before SA. Amax1 10:44, 27 June 2008 (UTC+10)

The newsletter is an easily accessible summary of two peer-reviewed studies from 2005. I have updated the reference format to better reflect this, and removed the study from 1981 which appears to be outdated. LyrlTalk C 12:11, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hidden bigotry within this article!

[edit]

Did anyone actually read this article? Whoever did write this should be banned from Wikipedia:

A more specified measure is motility grade, where the motility of sperm are divided into four different grades:[8]

Grade 1: Children of this age should be more concerned about learning addition.
Grade 2: This is a good age to teach your kids about sex, but contrary to popular belief, grade 2 students should not yet be performing such behaviours.
Grade 3: Kids at this age will only tend to become interested in the opposite sex, however they are more interested in holding hands at this age.
Grade 4: This is the age when the students are no longer children. The MEN and WOMEN of grade 4 should now be having sex for their first time, unless the child has grown up in Texas or any other dirty redneck state; in which case all you texas parents should stop raping your kids at this age, as texas kids at this age have an average of 13 STDs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SergioPozzetti (talkcontribs) 08:25, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

speciesism!

[edit]

i've started to 'dehumanise' the article. I don't see why you'd need separate articles for animals. It's all the same really, as almost all analysis and fertilisatin is done with mamals.Andrewjlockley (talk) 18:32, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

sperm count

[edit]

I was wondering - what is the time frame for the sperm count to reach its maximum ounce the person has ejaculated ? ( how long will it take from a count of 0 to reach 20 000 000) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saladza (talkcontribs) 07:36, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

sperm motility

[edit]

I would like to see information related to speed um/sek um/min, low-high. What is the normal speed of the sperms that get the Job done. What is lazy/slow sperm, what speed do this have? How are the lab able to count sperms pr.volume.?

CASA performance

[edit]

This unreferenced section of lack of precision of CASA systems seems contradictory to the latest research, and would need citation before reinsertion: Mikael Häggström (talk) 05:40, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

However, immotile sperm cannot accurately be distinguished from other cells, particles or debris without addition of staining. The first CASA systems in general cannot give reliable results for proportions of sperm with different grades of motility, at least not in semen samples, where there are many other particles, cells and debris. Even when it comes to motility, most systems cannot give reliable results when the concentration of motile sperm leads to significant "crossed paths" - due to difficulties to decide if there were two sperm crossing each others way, or if there were for instance four sperm moving close to each other.

my sperm count ordeal

[edit]

I had a sperm count a couple of years ago, and apparently, they are STILL counting. (They said they may have to weigh it instead). Myles325a (talk) 07:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Court-ordered sperm samples?

[edit]

The article focuses on infertility treatment. What about forensic semen analysis? I am especially curious to know about the collection method, i.e., whether masturbation can be ordered by the court. But perhaps I have misunderstood the scientific side. --Dawud — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.240.191.3 (talk) 04:52, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sperm microscopy

[edit]

Which magnification is necessary to see sperm? Which is used in the medical analysis? This could be interesting information to add. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2450:102F:3EF:50C8:198F:6D3C:263C (talk) 14:45, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
