Hello...this was moved from the Toronto page....this information is accurate as of March 24 2006...here is a copy of the letter from the City of Toronto confirming this list:

In response to your request for an official list of cities that Toronto is twinned with, they are:

Partner Cities (formal sister city relationships): Chicago Chongqing Milan Frankfurt

Friendship Cities (community-to-community, citizen-to-citizen based relasionships with limited municipal involvement):

Amsterdam

Warsaw

Kyiv

Sagamihara

Ho Chi Minh City

Quito

We hope to have information on our sister cities on the web later this year.

Regards,

Ron Wandel Manager, Investment Attraction City of Toronto Economic Development Division City Hall, 9th Floor, East Tower 100 Queen Street West Toronto, ON M5H 2N2 T - 416-392-3384 F - 416-392-5600 E - rwandel@toronto.ca

Why?

[edit]

Under the "Historical partnerships" heading, it says: "In 1999, the city established relationships with six cities. Four of those relationships still exist." Seems to be an error - is it only 3? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.246.69.215 (talk) 14:21, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this need to be a separate article? It is unlikely to grow into anything very big. How many twinnings can there be?

If there is no furious objection, I'll move the whole lot back to the Toronto article in a few days. Kelisi 02:29, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've made significant edits to this article - do you still think it should be merged back into Toronto? Mindmatrix 15:15, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Additional refs

[edit]

Info from these should be incorporated into the text. Keywords for which to search in the documents include "International alliance program" and "city-to-city".

Dunedin?

[edit]

Despite the citation provided for it, I am quite certain that Dunedin is not a sister city of Toronto. It fails three of the four criteria that the city has specified for this sort of thing. Perhaps it was a sister city in the past (also doubtful), but it most certainly is not today. Further, the city's consideration for new candidates for 2006 (see Background on page 2) clearly indicates the cities with which Toronto has a relationship. None were added in 2006 or 2007. I'm reverting this addition. Mindmatrix 14:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bishkek?

[edit]

The page on Bishkek states that Bishkek and Toronto are sister cities. I cannot find anything on the Internet... 99.254.159.219 (talk) 17:19, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt this is true, as it Bishkek likely fails at least one of the criteria defined by the city of Toronto for partnership and friendship cities. Mindmatrix

Sao Paulo

[edit]

Is Toronto a sister city with Sao Paulo, Brazil? The following wiki seems to indicate as so:
