Name

[edit]

Any information about the origin of the name Twizel? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.91.9 (talk) 11:23, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

according to this book it was named after the bridge/area near Twizell Castle ( possibly indirectly after the Twizel River ). Not sure if this ref is good enough to include in article. - SimonLyall (talk) 11:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, now have a good ref. - Snori (talk) 04:59, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary town?

[edit]

Is there any evidence for the claim that the town was intended to be temporary? Some statements are unlikely, for instance few telephone lines were underground in the 1960's. Also, was there a fight to "save the town itself" in 1983 - I don't recall this.Royalcourtier (talk) 10:17, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutly; did you not read http://www.odt.co.nz/lifestyle/magazine/283500/town-saved-bulldozers ? Snori (talk) 04:57, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Māori name

[edit]

Hi, I've just reverted the 'fact' of Ruataniwha being the Māori name for Twizel. It might seems logical that it would be, (i.e Ruataniwha Station, and Lake) but I don't believe it is, or every has been, applied to Twizel itself. If you know otherwise, of course feel free to pop it back, along with a ref to Reputable Source. - Snori (talk) 04:57, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
