We're so glad you're here! Thanks for helping cleanup the Sox article, it seems like most edits are made to disparge the team or give credit. Who knows where this thing could go? Thanks again. :) Yanksox 04:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roman Legions

[edit]

Thanks for your response about the legality of Roman legions operating within Italia. I've noted that there is a common belief in many articles (see Sejanus and Praetorian guard) in the illegality of legions existing "south of the Rubicon". Do you have any (references/recommended texts/places to start) with regards to straightening out this possible misconception? --Vedexent (talk) - 14:48, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you got rid of ronin goju ryu

[edit]

From the goju ryu article. It seems the guy from 207.30.155.13 likes to put Ronin Goju Ryu all over wikipedia. User5802 06:54, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caveat ??

[edit]

(reply to your comment in the three laws of robotics talk page)

All I can get from looking up "caveat" is the gist that you worry a lot ? This page has some cool things to put in negative eBay feedback Machete97 (talk) 22:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matryosha

[edit]

My translation of Demons (Maguire) describes Matryosha as 14 years old, but later when Stavrogin is recounting his vision he describes her as 10 years old. Pevear and Volokhonsky have the same thing and Constance Garnett only has 14. Frank describes her as 12 years old as do some other secondary sources, so I went with 12. Is there a source for "in her 12th year"? Is it from an uncensored version of the chapter? Harold the Sheep (talk) 05:29, 27 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Modern Library edition of 1935 includes the censored chapter as an appendix, translated by that edition's editor, Avrahm Yarmolinsky. He states that the source is the original proof sheets set up (although not used) for the serialization in Russi vestnik. He also compared them with the manuscript copy, in the handwriting of the second Madame Dostoyevsky, Anna Grigoryevna, who was also Dostoyevsky's stenographer. Yarmolinsky says that marginal notes on the proof sheets show that Dostoyevsky made several attempts to alter and tone down the chapter, none of which changed the magazine's mind. In the original, in Stavrogin's manuscript, when Matryosha's mother beats her because she thinks Matryosha stole a penknife, Stavrogin writes that she "raised welts on her, before my very eyes, although the child was already in her twelfth year."
