  1. a prefix of nearly unlimited productivity, expressing that something is done together with others who do the same thing, sometimes equivalent to English co- or along.
    mit- + ‎tanzen (to dance) → ‎mittanzen (to dance with others, to join others in dancing, to dance along)
  2. (with nouns) co-, fellow
    mit- + ‎Verschwörer (conspirator) → ‎Mitverschwörer (co-conspirator)
    mit- + ‎Bürger (citizen) → ‎Mitbürger (fellow citizen)
