Scope and Contents

This finding aid encompasses accessions of single manuscripts and small groups of manuscripts and other papers, by or pertaining to Maurice Baring, acquired by the library from a variety of sources. Materials incorporated into the collection prior to October 1997 have been organized into four series: Series I, Gift of L. D. C. (Lady Diana Duff Cooper), Series II, Gift of Elizabeth Hudson , Series III, Gift of Halsted B. VanderPoel , and Series IV, Additional Materials , which consists of papers acquired from various sources.

Includes letters from Baring to Eugénie Strong, 1900-1939, and a carbon of one letter from Strong to Baring, 1925; corrected typescript of "The Coat Without Seam"; corrected proofs of "The Song of the Nameless", with manuscript poem; corrected typescript of "Passages from Three Notebooks"; manuscript volume labeled: "French Parodies and Russian Exercises"; manuscript volume of various poems labeled "Sonnets and Lyrics"; and corrected typescript and manuscript of "A Luncheon Party".

Access Information

The Beinecke Library is open to all Yale University students and faculty, and visiting researchers whose work requires use of its special collections. You will need to bring appropriate photo ID the first time you register. Beinecke is a non-circulating, closed stack library. Paging is done by library staff during business hours. You can request collection material online at least two business days in advance of your visit, using the request links in Archives at Yale.
