GLAM Baltimore 2011 is a series of GLAM related events that will take place July 22-23 in Baltimore. These events will allow for Wikimedians involved in GLAM-WIKI and representatives from GLAMs throughout the Baltimore area to come together to explore the exciting opportunities related to Wikipedia partnerships with cultural institutions. The weekend will consist of two events: a happy hour for emerging GLAM professionals on the evening of Friday, the 22nd and a lively discussion and series of breakout sessions on the morning of Saturday, the 23rd.

GLAM Baltimore 2011 is being hosted and sponsored by by the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Heritage and planned by Eli Pousson.

Wikimedians are encouraged to attend who are interested specifically in GLAMWIKI relationships!

Wikipedia & Cultural Heritage at the Young Preservationist Happy Hour

[edit]

Note: You must be 21 to attend happy hour.

Baltimore's Young Preservationist Happy Hour is back in Mount Vernon for a quick talk on exciting new partnerships between cultural heritage organizations and everyone's favorite online reference-- Wikipedia! From the British Library to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, cultural heritage organizations are engaging with the Wikipedia community to connect people with accurate and engaging information on public art, historic places, and more. Join us at 6:30pm for a talk by Sarah Stierch (Wikipedian-in-Residence for the Smithsonian Archives of American Art) or just drop by for a beer when you can. Despite the name and the location just across the street from the Peabody Conservatory, the Midtown Yacht Club is an unpretentious neighborhood bar with affordable beer on tap and a solid bar menu.

Note: If you wish to attend please sign you name in the attendee section below.

Join Baltimore Heritage, Wiki DC organizer Katie Filbert, and the new Wikipedian-in-Residence for the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, Sarah Stierch, for a discussion hosted by the Walters Museum of Art on exciting work that museums & libraries have been doing with Wikipedia across the country (and new opportunities here in Baltimore). Partnerships between GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) institutions and Wikimedia (the non-profit that manages the widely used Wikipedia) have been sweeping the world as museums, libraries, archives, and broadcasters--including the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Milwaukee Arts Board, the British Library, and the Palace of Versailles--have partnered with Wikipedia and Wikimedia to share photographs, create new high-quality articles, document public art, and more.
