Battle Course 4 is the last battle course of Super Mario Kart. It uses the background and tilesets of Mario Circuit tileset.

Super Mario Kart[edit]

Battle Course 4 is a square-shaped course that features numerous paths separated by walls of four different colors, one in each corner of the map. There are also multicolored walls surrounding the entire track. It has an open space in the middle, including a square sandy area which can slow down players. Battle Course 1 of Mario Kart: Super Circuit resembles this track, but is smaller.

The course returns as a Retro Battle Course in Mario Kart Wii. If players are close enough to a wall, they can throw a shell over that wall without it hitting the wall. The player can also throw bananas and Bob-ombs over the walls. This is also true for GBA Battle Course 3.

Tournaments[edit]

March 2009's first tournament required players to collect 50 coins scattered throughout a slightly modified version of the track: Some routes are blocked off by barriers, and pipes and oil slicks appear as obstacles on some remaining routes. Immediately after starting, players are able to hit a ground Mushroom to quickly obtain Triple Mushrooms from a lone Item Box. The tournament was later repeated as the first tournament of March 2011, the second tournament of June 2012, and the first tournament of September 2013.

Other appearances[edit]

Although they did not appear in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, tilemaps and minimaps exist for all four of the Battle Courses from Super Mario Kart. These could have been used as placeholders before the new ones were completed, or it may have been possible to unlock these courses like the tracks at one point. Unlike all other tracks and battle courses in the game, which are stored in chunks, these are each stored in one piece, as in Super Mario Kart.
