We finished off our 5 day trip to Singapore with a one night stay at The Barracks hotel in Sentosa and I'm so glad we did. The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived and every member of staff went out of their way to make our stay special.

Highlights were the relaxing pool area, complimentary evening cocktails and canapés (whisky sours were excellent) and the breakfast.

I would definitely recommend for a short stay in Singapore especially if you'd like some peace a short trip from the city centre.

From the moment I step into this place, I know this is my style of hotel. Understated elegance, tranquil and luxurious. It was once a British Artillery outpost but now, it is a heritage hotel with modern facilities and rustic charms.

I love the compound. Lots of lawn and 2 huge lap pool spanning both sides of The Living Room. Many of the rooms/suites at ground level have direct access to the pool though there is a premium to be paid. If you enjoy the convenience of plunging in and out, this is your perfect choice.

The service is second to none. The moment you take a seat at the sun loungers the wait staff will serve you with a ice bucket and a glass of ice water.

You have the sense of space, exclusivity and prestige at this hotel. It was an old British artillery and the architecture is immaculately preserved.

Daily refreshments are served at The Living Room, with drinks, nuts, biscuits and crackers. This is like you stay at the club floors of any business hotels. In the evening from 6pm to 8pm they served canapes and items changed daily. For those that would like to stay in and enjoy the hotel to the fullest, this is how The Barracks does it.

The room is nicely adorned with rustic elements such as wooden beam at the ceiling, chest box turned into a minibar, brass lamps, brass water faucets, leather bed head reminiscents the past glory and these are some of the creativity the interior designer has put into place.

The minibar (except the miniature alcohol) is complimentary courtesy of the hotel. 2 Purete 750ml (Still and Sparkling) are provided complimentary as well.

Atkinson bathroom amenities, a UK brand that has been established for centuries are used and this truly compliments the history of The Barracks.

The breakfast is served at The Living Room. Adequate spread since they have limited room inventory and a combination of Western and Asian, I find it good enough and it is definitely a conscious decision of providing quality versus quantity.

Some staff are very friendly, Emily, Rafiq, Joel, Melvyn, Shahul, Nuri ... They just want to make sure their guests are well looked after. Kudos to them.

Overall, our stay are excellent. You wish the time could stand still and the days lengthen. Perhaps that is their trick to make you a second coming back!

Extraordinary hotel does not formed by stones and bricks, it is made by Extraordinary people!

Our stay with Barracks hotel was beyond amazing as you have access to all the facilities possible around Village Hotel and Outpost Hotel's pools and common areas as well as the Barracks area.
Upon entering the retro-looking barracks door, you are greeted with cleanliness, huge living, bathroom and dining area and interconnecting doors to your room from the bathroom and living.

In the room, you have access to great WIFI, smart TV, smart speaker connected via Bluetooth for your spotify playlist and unwind with cocktails in your bathroom with two vanity areas one for you and your partner.

Opening your room or bathroom door on the other side gives you access to your own Jacuzzi pool interconnected with the main pool. Overlooking from the classy lounge, you can have complimentary tea together and unwind till cocktail time with a delicious quality spread that you have never experienced from any other hotels.

After pool time, you can choose to dine at the Commune or nearby restaurants which was amazing as we could spend more time at the hotel afterwards!

We (two couples) recently stayed for 3 nights at the Barracks Hotel after seeing their Champagne and Sea Breeze staycation offer.

Even before we arrived, the communication was friendly, prompt and efficient even offering a pre-registration option online along with digital room key access on our mobiles. The final guest registration was completed in our rooms and within a couple of minutes - rooms were made available to us ahead of check-in time. A minor delay in our pickup arrangements was offset by a bottle of Prosecco for each couple.

The hotel and grounds themselves are beautiful, our first impressions accentuated by the 'grand entrance' via the impeccable (old) parade ground. As you enter the hotel itself you see the Living Room where breakfast, snacks and evening cocktails are served and, to either side the minimalistic and well thought out design of the pool areas providing that oasis of calm (the absence of any high rises also helps to maintain that relaxed ambience). One thing we might suggest for the pool area is the option of parasols as there is no shade available once the cabanas are occupied.

With the hotel and checkin covered and confirmation in our minds that we had chosen well for our staycation we now come on to the service and, to be honest, I run out of superlatives in describing the friendliness, engagement, efficiency and how much the staff want to make your stay an outstanding experience. They could not do enough for us. Food and beverage also excellent and well thought out.

We will be back soon!

My wife and I had a lovely stay at The Outpost Hotel last year. We were wowed by the service and experience, and were confident to try The Barracks Hotel for my birthday.

We opted for the pool access room and paid $700 (all in) for the date we selected. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to expectations at all. For this price point, we had a much better experience at Capella, where we are regulars.

Check in: Service was rather underwhelming, there was little personal touch and no explanation of any of the amenities available. (We just read the straits times review of barracks hotel and the journalist was offered a welcome drink and chilled face towel, which is totally alien to us as that was not our experience.)

Check out: We were denied a late check out request despite us seeing that pool access rooms were not full, even at 50% occupancy. Meanwhile, we bumped into a friend who was staying there during the same period and she had been granted late checkout till 2pm. She agreed it was bewildering that we were told to check out at 12noon, seeing as the hotel was not busy at all.

Overall facilities: the pool, furniture, room, living room were lovely. However, the plants around the pool area were clearly dying. Our semi private jacuzzi had us facing very nasty looking plants, which detracted from the luxurious experience.

There was a millepede in my room which they took more than an hour to come to clear it. I took a video of the creepy crawly and social media response was also of the view that the bug and service recovery could have been avoided.

Overall service: extremely inconsistent. We noted that in the afternoon, there were no pool towels laid out on the daybeds (but they were laid out in the morning.) Guests had left but their drinks were not cleared in the entire hour when we were swimming.

Overall comments: the hotel did well to manage the crowd, especially during peak hours like breakfast and cocktail hour. We enjoyed the all-day refreshments at the living room and cocktail hour very much.

However, for this price point, we will not return and not recommend at all, because service was really inconsistent and not worth the “premium” one is paying.

We stayed in the Barracks Hotel in Sentosa during Chinese New Year. The hotel has opened up in December and so they were surprised that we knew about them. Its a 4 star hotel but it certainly was priced like a 5 star and was worth the price too. Everything was spanking new. Its spread over a vast area in Sentosa island and just has 2 levels. Each room has a balcony and the white marbo granite finish looks very classy. Some very quaint things in the room like a old school music box which has blue tooth and so you could connect your phone to it and listen to any music. The hotel staff and in particular the General Manager was very courteous and ever helpful. They have two large lap pools and the greens are large enough for a banquet/destination wedding. These are the greens where the army used to practise their parade and hence the name of the hotel. Lot of other attractions in and around like the sentosa beach, resort world and Vivo city mall. This hotel is well worth a look even for locals as a staycation resort

As a resident of Singapore, Sentosa provides that cool holiday vibe brought only by real vacation-makers and is only a short 20-minute drive up the road from our home and pressures of everyday life. So whenever we can’t afford the luxury of taking time off from work/school, booking flights, packing, finding caretakers for our pets, and all the general planning that goes into a full holiday, we choose to power-rest locally.

This old military base has been converted to nothing short of pristine and historical luxury making it fully worth seeing. The old barracks rooms have been carefully renovated whilst still respecting the history of the original structure. The pool areas are stunning, and the attention to detail across the entire property and operations easily mirrors the disciplines of Disney. The Barracks Hotel does not just provide a nice place to stay but creates an amazing experience for which I can confidently recommend. Further, I fully intend to focus our next ‘staycation’ at yet another of the Far East Hospitality Group Hotels on the Island. Thank you, Jim Khoo, Angela and Team for such an amazing weekend and please keep up the great work!

My husband and I stayed at The Barracks for two nights last week, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! All of the staff were fantastic, the three gentlemen who were working during the breakfast service were attentive and friendly, as were those working the cocktail hour, particularly Gavin, who went out of his way to engage with us and ensure we had a wonderful evening. The service leading up to our stay was also very good, with staff replying to my email questions and requests, sharing helpful information and making bookings for breakfast, cocktails and the gym for us in advance, and calling the day before to kindly offer us an early check-in. And all of the staff at the hotel during our stay made a point to greet us by name and ensure we were being treated well and enjoying our stay, which made us feel very valued and welcome.

The hotel itself is gorgeous, with high quality, stylish finishes in the rooms and public spaces. The replenishable mini bar was a nice surprise, and we enjoyed the complimentary sparkling and still water in the room. The bed and linens were incredibly comfortable, and the shower was excellent, both pressure and temperature. We enjoyed the pools as well, though one was closed for half of our stay, and appreciated the extra poolside service including ice water and ice cream treats! The Living Room was enjoyable, with a decent selection of drinks and snacks available throughout the day.

As for the food and beverage (breakfast, evening canapes, and room service), the quality was excellent overall. The canapes were all very tasty, with a good variety (we particularly enjoyed the seafood arancini and parma ham crostini our first night) and the cocktails were expertly prepared. Breakfast was delicious, the granola in particular was so good, and the liege-style belgian waffles were my favourite, absolutely fantastic! It would have been nice to have been offered more than one choice from the menu though, more of an a la carte buffet style to be able to try multiple items, but that was the only downside of the breakfast and when we requested to add on a couple of sausages or a croissant the staff happily obliged! We ordered two desserts from room service, both very expensive but very tasty, except the banana crumble was partially frozen in the middle, disappointing when paying such a high price, but it was still so yummy I was able to almost overlook that.

The facilities were excellent, in particular the pools which were a very comfortable temperature, with lots of lounge chairs and attentive service by staff. The gym was the one at the neighbouring Oasia hotel, which was small but fully equipped, but without any disinfecting wipes or sprays, which was surprising given the pandemic. Still nice to have the option to use this gym though. There is also a shortcut to the beach walks behind the hotel, which make for a nice morning walk, and we appreciated the complimentary parking as well.

Overall we had a fantastic stay at The Barracks hotel, one of the best of the multiple staycations we've done in Singapore, and it is a place we certainly hope to return to!

Overall experience at the new Barracks hotel is good. But at this price point, I would have a suite and much better experience say at.. intercontinental or Kempinski or pay abit more to stay at Raffles hotel. Ok...I know.. hotels at Sentosa are expensive. In that case, I rather stay at Capella or Sofitel. With our status, we would have a suite and a private pool.

Check in, breakfast are very smooth with hardly any flaw. Partly because the staff already ask ‘what you would like for breakfast?’ Yup, during check in. You can only pick one set of breakfast though, which is quite surprising having paid a premium. While breakfast is nice, it’s the same everyday.

No visitors are allowed too and strictly for guest only, which on one hand is good for safe distancing since the compound of the hotel is very small. There are swimming pool on the left and right side of the hotel, which means everyone and see everyone as guest have direct view of the pool from their balcony and during meals at the lounge. No privacy at all but great some.

There are limited restaurants in Barracks shared with their sister hotel nearby. But looked closed.

The gym is closed as it is shared with Village, and Outpost hotel which are SHN hotels. There is also no newspaper which I love. (Strange, since having newspaper seems to align with their the theme of this hotel perfectly) I requested for it many times only to not receive a reply. Maybe the staff think that is not important or they forgot about it (other hotels I stayed so far would have easily adhere to my request).

Note to hotel: Well, if you do not provide physical newspaper, then I would expect you to offer a link at least. Or you think that people do not read the news these days??

The rooms are nice but small. There are also no windows in the room! Only a door that access to the balcony over looking the pool. The tea is good and selection mineral or sparkling glass bottles of water. The amenities is quite nice. The bathtub is sexy and the wc comes with bidet. However, at this price point, I still do not feel that it is worth it.

Decided to go with The Barracks Hotel since we were unable to travel this year. Having stayed at other hotels under the Small Luxury Hotels previously, we were keen to experience what The Barracks Hotel has to offer.

The hotel is situated at Gunner Lane and away from all the hustle and bustle so it is meant for those looking for a quiet getaway. The Mess Hall has several restaurants to choose from and RWS is several minutes walk away if you need additional entertainment. The hotel is operating only at 50% occupancy (max 20 of 40 rooms) due to safe distancing measures so this meant that the swimming pools were never overcrowded during our stay.

The stay was relatively comfortable as the rooms were modern and you tend to forget that you're still in the Lion City within all these refurbished colonial buildings. Downside though was that I chanced upon a few insects in my room - perhaps the disadvantage of being too close to nature?

Service wise was pretty good with welcome drinks on arrival and I was fortunate to have both early check in and late check out. The Living Room provided complimentary evening canapés where Gavin and Melvin stood out with their dedication and friendly service. On the flip side, I've indicated during my reservation that it was my wife's birthday and unfortunately Barracks Hotel did not arrange anything special so did not provide any added service - very disappointing for a 5 star hotel especially with this price point. Furthermore, I had the Sea Breeze and Champagne Staycation on one of my nights and felt that the tea tailoring was very unique but the sweet & savory treats were quite forgettable.

All in all, The Barracks Hotel is an incredible place but service level needs to be improved for it to fulfil its potential.
