Citing Weebly

[edit]

Why isn't Weebly itself used for some of the basic information about Weebly--it has an entire page dedicated to its own features. Should that not be what we cite for the basic feature set? MathMaven (talk) 13:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Third party sources. benzband (talk) 12:10, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Working on the Article

[edit]

I am working on a huge contribution to the Weebly article here on Wikipedia. You can see my progress at my New-Article page. If any of you care, let me know what you think! MathMaven (talk) 18:44, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Part 1 of article expansion is complete! Any help with additional content, copy-editing, etc. would be fantastic. MathMaven (talk) 15:29, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Part 2 has been completed! A (brief) features section has been added. I now need some work on criticism and on the History portion, as well as any ideas on how to expand the article. MathMaven (talk) 21:50, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This link no longer seems to point to a proposed article on Weebly. David Spector (talk) 17:58, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article assessment

[edit]

I'm responding to the assessment request posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Computing/Assessment. I rated the article C-class. Here are some comments:

  • Some good references to reliable sources (e.g. Time)
  • Article needs information about what Weebly actually does. It's not clear whether it hosts the websites.
  • The quote in the History section sounds promotional and it's not clear that the level of detail in the Initial release section is helpful. Features section sounds promotional, too.
  • Criticism section is out-of-context and appears plagiarize cited sources.
  • Lead has too much detail.
  • Doesn't introduce links to relevant computer-related articles (e.g. web template, blog, plug-in (computing).

Advertising

[edit]

It is an advert "quickly and easily" is pure promotion, not an objective article at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.74.225.63 (talk) 07:10, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an ongoing problem with articles about new businesses. WP cannot be used for advertising, according to WP policy. The article needs to be toned down from its current marketing tone of voice. David Spector (talk) 18:01, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

lovefortheelderly advertising?

[edit]

Running across this page I noticed this diff. Is this site really the most notable site hosted by weebly? Is it notable enough to even be mentioned in this article?

I just took a snapshot here https://web.archive.org/web/20160808191739/http://7699341058.weebly.com/ I am pretty sure this is a scam service, I got a phonecall instructing me to open these suspicious .exe files after making me worried running EVENTVWR.

I did my best to waste the probable scammer's time but got bored, but figure I should drop a line in case they try this on anyone else.

The ammyy.exe file he tried to get me install seems to be a recurring problem. This 11 December 2012 YouTube video mentions

"I have given the scammer access to my PC through ammyy and he has typed in a URL for ordering something called "Syscleaner".

Could we make sure people are adequately warned about this scam? Ranze (talk) 19:20, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rework for Encyclopedic

[edit]

As it stands, "is a platform for e-commerce, websites and integrated marketing for creative entrepreneurs and small business owners" is hardly encyclopedic. I think it is smart to follow in the footsteps of vetted, similar companies such as Medium (website) and Wordpress.com.

Requirement to use a Square account to login

[edit]

Having made a Weebly site years ago, I recently got an email informing me I am "required to update [my] login and connect with Square by October 6". Apparently all new signups for some time have been only possible with a Square account. (I've been a bit of an absentee web master so all this is news to me)

Perhaps this is worth noting on the page, under History/Acquisition by Square?

I haven't yet looked for good non-primary sources about this. 99.146.242.37 (talk) 04:23, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
